    echeck payments

just seeing what everyones thoughts on these are? I sold some stuff today real cheap b/c i needed some paypal funds immediately. I had many people wanting the goods and then guy who pm me 1st and says he will take it sends paypal and its a echeck which is going to take 5 days to clear. Do you think I am in the wrong if I voided the sale and went with the next guy in line.. ? Just seeing everyone's thoughts on this.seems like a buyer should be obligated to tell the person if going to pay with an echeck.. whole reason for PayPal and the fees we pay is to get the money right away..Like i said just looking for some views on this to see what u guys would do..and just so everyone knows i havent made a decision yet but am debating on refunding his payment and moving to the next guy which i dont think would be wrong especially seeing the huge discount i gave him for buying it today

the problem should be with paypal since the funds are taken immediately out of your bank account when using an echeck...there shouldnt be any reason for it to take 5 days to clear

Has paypal put a "hold" on the payment until it clears?

I have yet to see any echeck payments come out right away from the bank. I've paid and have been paid with echecks and it takes at least 3 to 5 days to post if not longer. As for the question of a refund you should have told this person from the start you don't except echecks it's kind of to late now to tell him.

Sometimes paypal will do this if the buyer or seller has a newer account, or if they have been using the account a lot. When I first started using my account, I had a couple big money transactions that always needed the 5-day period to clear. Though your transaction may be small, it is a common occurrence. If you need the funds right now, that is a tough situation. You could explain it to the buyer, or try selling something else, but it sounds like you might be up the creek in this one.

it probably also depends on your bank...i can send an echeck now and by the next business day (if sent on the weekend) it will be withdrawn from my account and during the weeks ive seen it taken out the same day...i could be one of the luck few and havent had anybody complain to me about using an echeck yet

very true now there is away around all this just use paypal and use the option money owed as payment method. Echecks are also commen if your account don't have enough funds to cover the payment

Using the "gift" or "money owed" option is not a good idea for the seller or the buyer, there is no protection against fraud. Plus, if you use it too much, paypal will just close your account. But the best thing to do is just use what funds are available in your paypal account.

this is why SCF is such a great place thanks for all the opinions they buyer reversed the payment and sent as gift this time and it went right through and showed up immediately.. so who knows why PayPal makes something echecks and others not..
anyways glad the buyer took care of it and I will be sending him some extra cards for him being such a stand up guy
