Possibly Stolen Card: Scan/Description and Needed Help!

This weekend I had a table at the local card show here in Edmonton. I had the triple Sens auto here for sale with a price of $125 on it. I had it at the end of the first day for certain and then here I am now, at the end of the second day, missing the card without ever having sold it. My suspicion is that someone pulled a sleight of hand on me and somehow swiped it without me noticing. If you are on e-Bay, any other trading site, or come across the card at any card-shop or pawn-shop in the Edmonton area, let me know as losing any card of that value is real kick in the teeth. Yikes Bruce, sorry to hear that! It's ridiculous to see how low people can get.

I am sorry to hear about this card being stolen. If I happen to see the card I will let you know. I would like to stress when you have cards of this value at a show and they are not in a showcase then you're setting yourself up for a situation like this. As I have seen too many cards been stolen from people that just place the cards on top of the table. To me it's just being naïve.

I hope this is a wake-up call to all when setting up for the show now or in the future. As we know there are too many bad apples in the hobby. Let's not make it easy for them to walk away with our cards.

s you say it was your first show and I understand not everyone will know everything. Even with cases holding most of my cards I like to have a secondary person help watch my table. I would suggest in the future you also bring another person for a extra set of eyes. Just ask gladdyontherise as we go together quite often to help each other keep track of the other cards when either of us walk around or leave the table.

Good advice by Don, because those who are not adverse to stealing your cards will also know the tricks to play in order to improve their chances of getting away with it. They'll ask to see something that's on a back table (if you have one) just to get you to turn your back so they can swipe something. It doesn't matter how much of an eye you keep on your stuff, inevitably you will be distracted and they will seize the opportunity. Or they sometimes work in pairs and intentionally create a diversion.

One time, I had some cards stolen from me at a show and while I didn't notice it at the time, I realized how it happened later. A teenage kid was looking through a bunch of cards I had in toploaders in a monster box. He waited until I turned my back to get change or grab a price guide and he simply dropped a card or two out of his hands. What he had done was place an open gym bag on the floor at his feet, which was out of my view since the tables were draped, and he just dropped the cards into the bag w/o missing a beat. I think he stole 4-5 cards valued at $20-$25 each, to the best of my recollection.

My point with that story is that I, too, thought I could watch everything and keep an eye out for everything, but you just can't. So if you can bring someone along, even someone who knows nothing about cards, just to keep watch over your items, it is well worth the protection that extra pair of eyes provides.

I've told others this, if your card is stolen, file a report so the serial # is on file. If you see it a year from now and you tell the owner its yours, it will just be your word against his. With no proof, he can trade/sell it away in the meantime. A police report allows the cops to take it into custody until it is straightened out. It prevents the card from being 're-stolen" while your looking into it and disappearring for good. While most peopke are honest, if they were involved in the theft, they wont be responsible enough to wait until the cops show up. Then they just deny it and get away twice.
