The SCF Edmonton Oilers Official Chat Thread
I'm bored, and I don't go on any other online forum to talk about sports related stuff, so lets have an Edmonton Oilers thread to talk about the team! I know there are a lot of Oilers fans out there so lets get some good discussion going.
Go Oilers go!

With the trade deadline approaching...
Penner or Hemsky? And what would you want for either of them?
Also, Oilers-Ducks game at 8:00 EST. Dubynk should be getting the start

I'm not an oiler fan but both you mentioned should be shipped out along with a few others, and maybe LOWE also, that team needs to be rebuilt again seeing that they havn't really improved at all since last years tank job!

Of Penner and Hemsky, I would guess Hemsky is most likely to be traded. I don't really want either to go but I think Penner has more of a future with the Oilers. If one of them are traded, the Oilers will be in need of another decent RW.

The Oilers don't have a lot of depth on Defense right now, so I think it would be a good idea if they traded a player such as Hemsky for someone such as Prospel, and a draft pick?

I'm in love with the idea of flipping Hemsky for Bogosian. I'd even go a couple of steps further..... and toss in Cogliano or Brule.... ask for a 2nd or 3rd round pick to come back the Oilers way.
How much truth to those rumors there really is though.... who knows?
I think they need to chose between Penner or Hemsky though. I lean towards Penner becuase he's the bigger body (something they lack).
With the draft coming up - I think there is a tough decision this year (unlike last year, Hall was a no-brainer... despite what the 'experts' said). Landeskog, Couturier, or Larsson. I'm inclined to think that the Center (Couturier) or the Dman (Larsson) is what they need to take.
If a deadline deal can be made to get a blue-chip type Dman.... that makes my choice (Couturier) really easy on draft day. There's not too many young / blue chip centers around the leauge..... so the defense (I think) is what you have to target.
Picks and Prospects work as something to grab too, obviously.
The only 'untouchables' for me right now though.... Eberle, Hall, Omark, Paajarvi, and Lander (plus a few other prospects)
I think of Dubnyk, Peckham, Petry, and Smid as unlikely to traded - becuase they're useful players, that cost little.
Gilbert, Horcoff, and Khabibulin are all very unlikely to be dealt (contracts).
The rest of them can be traded though...... keeping in mind that we can't gut one position too much.
My ideal lineup next year? (Assume Hemsky+Cogs for Bogosian & Pick happens, we draft Couturier)
Hall / Horcoff / Eberle
Paajarvi / Gagner / Omark
Penner / Couturier / Someone (Brule??)
Jones / Lander / MacIntyre
Extras are Reddox and O'Marra?
That would leave us with Whitney, Bogosian, Smid, Peckham, Gilbert, and Foster on 'D'. Petry can be the 7th.
Goalies won't be changing next year.
I guess that leaves JFJ, Fraser, Vandermeer, Strudwick, and maybe Brule as the guys I'd be looking to get rid of.
Vandermeer and Strudwick I'd happily take a 6th round pick, and consider it a steal.
Brule I'd want something in the 2-3 round for. Fraser I'd be happy with a prospect that was taken in the 2nd round 4 years ago.... or a 3-4 round pick this year.
JFJ??? If you could get Jarome Iginla to sign a Dallas Stars puck.... and the Oilers got that in return.... Tambellini would be a genious. I can't figure out why the organization still thinks he can play in the NHL.

The Hemsky for Bogosian rumor was something that I would definitely do, but I'm not sure of the validity of those rumors.
Another option I had was either Hemsky or Penner, and a throw in, to LA for Wayne Simmonds, Thomas Hickey or Vyacheslav Voynov, and a draft pick. Neither player would be as good as Bogosian, but the potential is there.
Fraser is awful and I have no problem sending him to the minors. The guy I would like to target in the off season is Zenon Konopka. MacIntyre may not be resigned, and the team would need a fighter. Plus, he would solve some of the face off problems the team has. We would need to cut down on the "goon" stuff he does, but it's risk-reward. Fraser was low risk, but ABSOLUTELY NO reward.

I'd be happy with Konopka too.
LA would make an interesting trade partner. Teubert is another guy I'd be interested in going after. (I doubt they trade Simmonds)

I've been hearing some reports of Lombardi offering Simmonds to teams in hopes of a top-6 winger. Not sure how accurate that is, but I hope Edmonton is involved if it's true.
The Habs play Edmonton on Thursday, and I would suspect quite a few scouts will be there looking at Penner, Peckham, and Smid. Personally, I don't think Montreal has to assets to get Penner. Peckham I don't see being traded, but Smid is a possibility. He's a tough(ish) defenceman, and the Habs have lots of injuries on the back end. Who knows, maybe they'd take JFJ too
.
We will definitely have a lot to talk about after Oil Change tonight
