Taylor Hall got his first career hat trick today...a natural one too! Unfortunately I didn't see them game, but it's still exciting new for him and the Oilers organization!

I went to the game this afternoon...It. Was. AWESOME! The 3rd period was fantastic. A little glimpse of the future. I almost thought it was over when Kane scored, especially with the way the team was playing. Nice to say I saw Taylor Hall's first NHL hat trick live

As far at the Penner or Hemsky being moved before the trade deadline...
I would like to see both of them moved since the Oil are rebuilding and both of them have their problems.
Hemsky, yes he is very skilled but he is injury prone and doesn't shoot enough (even though he has a great shot).
Penner, he is very lazy (when he does play good he is a good player, but it is getting very rare) and everyone seens to for get that 2 years ago the oil would have taken anything to get rid of him.

If i had to choose 1 I would like to see penner get moved, and maybe throw in cogliano to get either a big centerman or a decent dman.

I was also at the game and saw Hall's first career natural hat trick (3 PPG's) It was a good glimpse into what the Oilers are capable of doing in the future.

Hemsky won the 3rd star of the week! When this guy is healthy and on his game, he's incredible. It's going to be a tough pill to swallow if he is indeed moved.

Game day against the Wild...not feeling too good about this one, but we have snapped streaks against teams we have lost 3 in a row to this year(San Jose and Dallas). Go Oilers!

Oilers need to worry about what their lines will look like next year, the year after, and the year after that.

Honestly - I think there is only room for one of Hemsky or Penner going forward. I'd lean towards keeping Penner, becuase he's a big body (despite not playing like it some nights) and Hemsky - while clearly better at this point - is the same "small / skilled" forward that the Oilers have an abundence of.

I doubt very much that there is a "big center" availble for either of these guy though. That big center that would be worth a trade for one of these two, won't be made avilable.

Defense though - if a Zack Bogosian type player is really available..... I would be very tempted to move one of them out for a player like that (probably other pieces involved in the deal though).

If they're actually looking for a Center on the trade market - I'd try to deal with Florida. If a deal could be centered around Gagner for Wiess, I'd be all over that :)

Brule was activated from the IR for tonight's game, and looks like Chorney is going to replace him on the list. Shame, Chorney has been playing very well lately. Hopefully Brule can get back to his 09-10 form.

Anybody expect a Smid to Nashville trade to go down soon? The Preds just got rid of Sulzer, and may have a hole on D. Nashville scouts have been watching Smid for the last couple weeks.

I've heard that one a few times, but I don't get it.

Oilers are soft on D. Smid, and Peckam are the only two with any kind of mean streak. They're not going to get anything substantial for him (John Blum, was the last one I heard) so why bother? Doesn't Smid makes this team better next year, and the year after that?

For Smid, I think Blum would be a substantial return. He's been a very good prospect for the Preds, and knowing the way they develop defenceman, they have probably helped him become a more complete player.

Smid has never really improved since his tenure began with the Oilers. After the way he played last year with Visnovsky, I thought he would be ready to take a step forward this year, but that hasn't been the case. You can argue he's tougher than most of our D, but teams aren't afraid to play against him. I honestly think Alex Plante(as much as I think it was a waste of a 15th overall pick) has improved more than Smid has, and should be ready next season.
