    Need help identifying

Last month at the local card show I picked up a couple Auto's of these brothers

Had the same vendor tell me he has a few Sittler's from the same set so I paid for 1 and picked it up today. Looks like this

    Front

    Back

This 1 also came with a COA.

Glad to have the card for the price paid but am wondering if it is from the same set as the Mahovolich's.

The Mahovlich boys are from this set: https://www.sportscardforum.com/scf/inv/viewset/138257

The Sittler is from this set: https://www.sportscardforum.com/scf/inv/viewset/49043

The Future Trends 72 Canada Cup set came out 1991-92, the 76 set was 92-93. The numbering on the '76 set picks up at 101 so it looks as though it's a continuation of sorts.

The Mahovolichs are from the 1991-92 Future Trends Canada '72 set and the Sitler is from the follow-up set focusing on the 1976 Canada Cup. I think both sets were made by the same company, but they are definitely two different sets.

    Thanks

New the Mahovolich pair were from 91-92 Future trends. Sold at the bay I believe.
Wasn't sure about the Sittler. So it is from the following year with a continuation of the numbering

    Thanks again

The autograph set from both brother I would say one might be from the autograph set and frank is probably a in person auto. Even the gold is not garantee it's a auto card rather then in person auto. Since there was no way to tell, many did have card from the regular set signed in person using gold and silver pen.

Normally it has to be gold pen in order to be part of the auto set but this is not a garentee it is as in person gold auto did happen a lot from all I know. This is also why cards are hard to get good value as it hard to authentify one.

See this website information on the set. Some king of coating would be over the actual signature.

Between one and two special cards, signed in gold paint pen by living Canadian players, were randomly inserted into each foil case. Only one Russian player, Vladislav Tretiak, signed cards. Supposedly each of the signers signed only 750 cards for insertion and distribution within the packs. These cards were specially coated with a swirl pattern over the autograph. Reportedly, The Bay also issued 2500 autographed sets without the special coating, but this has never been confirmed.

So many in person gold or other color exist and it hard to tell unless you do have the card in hand. Not gold, I would not list it as a auto unless someone can confirm some did sign using the silver pen. So har to tell apart real on and fake in person one other the the color and largness of the pen along with the coated swirl pattern over the autograph.

    Thanks for the info.

The Cashman and White that I have are both gold and were pulled by myself in the last couple of years.
Will have to see if I can find some more boxes of them.Got 1 Auto out of each box. Would like to get the Dryden

Any idea who all signed in silver? Or are there cards of both color for each person if you think they are through the mail or in person

From all I know all auto were sign with gold pen and any silver would be a in person auto. Gold auto, unless you pulled them or can see the coated swirl pattern over the autograph could also be a in person auto. It was notarious back in these days, that many tried to have them autograph in person and then pass it as a auto signed card from that set. I would consider only gold as potential real auto card from that set. The key is the coated swirl pattern over the autograph. If you can see this on your pulled card then you could see if any other have it too!

About the silver / gold issue, they were all supposed to be signed in gold.

There should be a "fingerprint" pattern swirl above the gold auto to authenticate it as CoolHandLuke mentioned.

Again i would like to thank people for the info.
Dug out the White and Cashman today and can see the fingerprint swirl on the entire card.

The Mahovalich brothers do not have the swirl so both would either be in person or through the mail autos.

The Sittler has no swirls but came with a letter of Authenticity. For the Auto and hand numbering I guess. This could be so as the person I got it from lives in Sittler's home town of Elmira.

The Sittler is from a other year and set so the swirl thing does not apply for that set as this was for the 72 set so I would say it's authentic. They might have done the swirl thing only in 72 from all we know. They also say some might have been produce with no swirl and that was never proven but did help the fake one to pass under the radar. I know from 72, I would only consider swirl to be authentic.
