My first hockey card, and the one that started it all was this one...

First card to feature the newest of the Big Bad Bruins, Cam Neely. I remember seeing a couple of his cards at the shop in a Canucks uniform, but I didn't want them (hindsight is 20/20, haha, I eventually picked up the two with him in the Vancouver uniform.) I waited for these to come out, only to finally pick up a card with him in a Bruins uniform. From there it blossomed into a wonderful, huge card collection that I gave up on after a flood ruined all but my Bruins cards. After taking the kids to a P-Bruins game, they each got a team set, so when we got home I showed them dad's collection of Bruins cards, and once they were hooked, I was too.
First card that I went after when I started collecting again...

Now I'm in it for the long haul, and love every minute of it.

wow the winning materials Cam Neely is a beautiful card. I hope your taking it out tonight for a nice romantic meal and night on the town!
I was a big Neely fan when he was in the league. I saw his RC in Canucks uniform at a flea market in the mid 90's and wanted it bad. The price tag was much too high at the time for my $5 weekly allowance.

I am a fairly new collector, been actively collecting hockey cards for a little over a year now. I started out with three Derek Boogaard base cards and was hooked from there. A card I definitely hold with sentimental (in addition to monetary) value is my 2009-2010 John Tavares UD Series 1 Young Guns rookie card.
I pulled this card out of one of the first packs of cards I ever bought.

I later traded this card for a bunch of awesome cards but still missed having it. So, naturally, I ended up buying a box of 2009-2010 Series 1 last fall and the last Young Guns I pulled was a John Tavares! It's now framed with a Taylor Hall Young Guns I pulled in a Christmas break of 2010-2011 Series 1.

Awesome thread. ;)

Have to go far in number of years and very early in my life. But this is the card I have in my mind when I think about early cards I wanted to hold to it.
Rogation Vachon in 1970. Then Ken Dryden came in and I was amase by him. I guess this is also why I mainly collect Montreal's goaltender.

My first was a 56-57 Parkhurst Set that me and my buddies destroyed playing Card Wars. Lol
The breakaway cards were the neatest. I also put at least 8 Bobby Orr Rookies through the spokes of my bike. One new one each week for 2 months.

I don't remember my first card but I most definitely remember the day I got hooked. I was about 5 years old and my neighbor was having a garage sale that was just about 5 or 6 tables just FULL of different unopened hockey card boxes. I remember asking him about them and he gave me a pack of something like 93-94 Upper Deck and I just got hooked from there. My parents bought me box after box (at great prices I might add) that summer and my collection has grown and grown ever since.
I remember the first set I REALLY went after was the 98-99 Topps Gold Label set....my mom and I went all over the place in our town looking for more and more packs to finish the set. The look of those cards is just beautiful! The day I completed that set was one of the proudest moments in my collecting memory, it was just so much fun to see my mom so willing to help me finish it. It was a great bonding experience that I'll cherish for life :)

The most memorable card for me has always been...

A common from the 80-81 Topps set. It was in the first pack of cards I ever ripped. I, of course, had to scratch the one I pulled to find out who it even was! Wish I could remember who else was in that pack... I also wish I could buy a box of 80-81 for less than $500. I think it would be fun to rip my 'first' again!

Ah yes, The Mask. That was one card that I always cherished after I got it. It was like $10 anywhere you wanted to find it back then. I remember I traded away a Brett Hull RC (back in 1992, one of the hottest cards out there) for it and an OPC Premier set. I don't regret it for a moment.
When I started collecting again that was one of the first cards I went after...I hope one day when Roy and the Remparts come to town I can get it signed.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...
