Canadian Insurance
Does anyone have a reccomendation for a company to get insurance through in Canada (Ontario). I saw a sponser link on the board, but it was American.
I've tried though my home insurance, and they require a written apprasial from a dealer, and even with that the cost seemed rather excessive.
Appologies if posted in wrong location! :)
Thanks!

I am sure a fellow Canadian might chime in if they have their collection insured. Might want to ask the Sponsor link if they know of someone or possibly how to go about getting your insured. Much like collecting the insurance industry might have friends north or south of the border they send business to. Might want to inquire if you do not get any responses.

What kind of insurance are you referring too?
If its for your cards, you're in the right place.
1st Q - how much do you need?
Many home insurance policies include a set amount for Cards / Collectibles / Coins.
I personally have TD insurance:
http://www.tdinsurance.com/home/
Here's a breakdown of their insurance services:
http://www.tdinsurance.com/home/advantage_general.jsp
and their limitations:
http://www.tdinsurance.com/home/adva...imitations.jsp
You'll notice that they specifically say "card collection" and provide up to 3000$, but most are around 1000$
Some places allow you to have extra value added onto that, but many don't.
What you want to do is just call any old home insurance company and ask specifically about card collections. Most will have a specific category, but many will just say its the same as the numastic value (coin collection value)
If it helps, the best cost will probably be achieved through a company or alumni discount.
If you have specific questions, drop me a line via PM.
Cheers.

Hi reoddai
Yes, I should have been more specific. It is for a hockey card/autograph collection.
My previous home insurance had a 3k max, much like TD. I had to provide them photo reference and Book values on the collection, and then they gave me additional coverage for the remainder.
However, we switched providers (CAA now), and they are much more strict - they want a written appraisal from a dealer - and at this point its not really feasible for me to get my collection to the closest dealer to appraise (35+ binders, PSA sets, 500+ autographs, 50+ framed photos + jerseys, mcfarlane, blah blah).
Total value is 25k+, so yea, well beyond the typical home owners max value.
I'll try calling other home insurance providers, but I was hoping to find a company that deals specifically with collectibles!

Where are you located in Ontario? I know a couple appraisers that will come to your house, or where ever your collection is.

Yah, my suggestion doesn't really help for a 25K+ collection. I think that for most insurance groups at that level, they would need an appraisal. I've found TD to be really good so its nice to hear that they gave extra without much documentation.
GL. If/when you do find something, please post your results here. I'm sure it will help other members.

Can't really blame them, they wouldn't want to be dishing out a big amount of money for something that somebody says is worth x amount of dollars only to find out that it wasn't or the collection wasn't even that large without any documentation/photo's/proof etc.
Not saying your collection isn't huge or worth that much, but it sounds like they want proof.
