Question about Victory black parallels
Anyone know what the print run normally is for the Victory blacks...i pulled one of these out of some retail 10-11 series 2 packs a few days ago.

It's unknown, but most estimates peg them at around 25-30 if my memory serves. Back in 05-06 they were #'d /5 but that hasn't been the figure since despite what many eBay sellers try to post.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Exactly. 9 times out of 10 people quote them as a ficticious #'d /5. They haven't been that since 05/06. I had 6 copies of one from 07/08 and knew of the existence of 3 more at one time. 25-30 is a pretty good guess.

Everyone needs to remember that this is true for Victory Update which is released in UD Series II. [I'm really getting tired of being called dishonest as a eBay seller who says his Jared Cowen Black Victory RC has a print run closer to 50-75 than 5-10 when it's the only one that's been listed since Victory was released last August]
The regular Victory Black Border cards are much more rare based on anything I've ever read or seen. Cards with print runs in the 25-30 range will often show up on eBay in multiples or at least at a regular rate following a product's release. There are many, many player collectors who wait to no avail for a black border from the regular Victory release to show up.

...
Black Victory Numbered to #/5 is absurd.
Right now there are 2 Darroll Powe 08-09 Victory Black RC's on eBay.
Both sellers are asking two ridiculous prices.
Seller #1 - $30.00 BIN
Seller #2 - $20.00 BIN
Both are claiming they could possibly be numbered to #/5. Balderdash. I emailed one of them ( the $30 guy) and told him unless he could prove otherwise, there's no way it's #/5. He agreed but did not alter the text in his listing.
I have one Powe Victory Black RC myself. I paid $5 Bucks for it, and previous to me buying, there was another listed about 4 months ago.
When a card is numbered to #/5 even if it's a specialty 4th liner like Darroll, those just don't leave collections.......period.
More possibly the number of 25 or 50 would be correct. There is no chance that something numbered to #/5 has Two eBay listings at the same time, and me with a 3rd one, and others posted earlier by different sellers.
Upper Deck should get it together and find out from their production staff, and when you call by phone asking, they should provide a correct answer.
Upper Deck infuriates me with it's lack of professionalism.

This is EXACTLY my point, though... Powe is from 2008-09 Victory UPDATE. I know of at least 3 different Claude Giroux collectors who still are looking for 2008-09 Victory Blacks.
The difference between the initial release and the UPDATE release is night and day.
Collectors need to learn to acknowledge that ALL Victory Black parallels are not created equal!

08-09 was the strange year for Victory Black updates included in Series 2.
There were some retail boxes that had a few victory black cards in EVERY PACK! This definitely skewed the numbers tremendously.
People have done the math before, and if I remember correctly, its <50 in the regular Victory release, and 100+ in the Series 2.
However...with everything that has been said, you've found a very good card, and if you can find the right collector, you will have a great chance to get something good for it.

The rarity of these cards is also skewed by the lack of people busting the product. I have one year I am still waiting to see. A bit of the stuff gets busted as the first release but not one goes looking for old Victory to break. My local local shops have cases of this stuff sitting around for years.

Thanks to everyone who has responded...it was a Victory black rookie of Kyle Clifford that i pulled from about 6-8 loose packs at Wal Mart a few days ago so i guess i did not do too badly considering i have never pulled a black yet.

I bought a Ian Cole Victory Black RC on the Bay the other day. Got it for 99 cents. I put it for trade. Could not get more than 12 $ BV in return (though, the card was auto).
Someone said it: the Black parallel (even more the Black RC) form the initial release are FAR more rare than the Update release.
Like someone said, this have to do with the fact that the Victory initial release is not cracked by people (kids) who tends to put stuff on sale on eBay. Upper Deck serie 2 is. Also, Upper Deck serie 2 is sold out almost every year. I pretty sure it is not the case with the Victory initial release...
Just try to guess how much nice Black cards sits in kids common piles and warehouse everywhere around the world...
Saying that Update Black victory are as rare as Black from the initial release is absurd. They may have the same print run (say 50 or 75). But they are not as rare.I collect the following:
- Vintage (Stars and RC)
- 2010-11 ITG Decades (Auto, GU, bases)
- Stars from the 1980s (in modern sets)
- Montreal Canadians Legends (bases, inserts, parallels, #, RC, Auto, GU)
- Montreal Canadiens actual players (inserts, parallels, #, RC, Auto, GU)
