What motivates you?
Hello, my name is "Dakota" and I am a frustrated Wild fan. It's a problem because they aren't at the bottom of the league, but they're not playoff material. So I can't be too frustrated, but I really want to see Mikko Koivu hoist Lord Stanley's Mug.
In light of this, I have a question for all you Oil, Leafs and Isles fans (among others): what motivates you as a fan? I guess what's motivating me is that I am a Wild fan through and through and that, with all the bad things going on, it will be that much sweeter seeing the Cup hoisted by the Wild.
I'm looking forward to seeing some of the replies. Thanks!

Every team goes through the 'dark days', you just have to be patient, committed and confident that your team will grow through the years and be a cup contender. That will get you through :)
The fans who stay loyal 'benefit' the most. I cannot stand bandwagoners.

I'm with you on that. If I were a bandwagoner I would never be a Wild fan.

Preface: Im not a follower of the mention teams you are looking input from:
I've loved the Pens during the Jagr days, I actually knew of him before Mario. Since the 04-05 season of hints of some great pick in the draft and since its become a beast of a bandwagon, its great for the league but I love the players that dont get the light but play consistently and focused. The Pens went years between the good to bad and worse but really, any team in time with focus and want will get those players in that will rebuild the system from their leagues on up.
Since 07-08 from what I can tell, Pens fans have not had a ego or rubbed it in as other winners or regions of have a great season cause really you can never tell as a fan, just there watching the team you like do what they do. Some good, some bad and Oi then theres that other area.
In time, they all get their due and thats IMO how hockey is and thus loving it over every other sport out there ATM though my P. Pirates(baseball) need to hit.500 to have the best season in 18 season so yea, it hits all.

Always have rooted for the Blues, post-lockout hasn't been too good. I'm used to it cause I'm also a Kansas City Royals and Chiefs fan! There's always hope for the future, that's what keeps me motivated.

I grew up a Canucks fan and, as a kid, decided I also liked Ottawa and Florida. As such, I know about disappointment and I know it well.
With that said, watching my Canucks have the season they're having after 10 years of mediocrity and 5 years of absolute horrendousness before that has a little bit of extra pride to it. I'm sure the past few Pittsburgh seasons have felt much the same after everything they went through before. As much as fans of a team that always does well (like cheering the Red Wings for the last 15 years) can always be proud of their team, there's something about cheering an underdog to success after years of nothing that makes it so much sweeter.

I was just a kid when Philly won it's Cups. I guess I got aboard the bandwagon at an early age and never got off. We had some later success and had our shots to get it back but came up short. Regaining that lofty goal keeps me going, and luckily Philly is impatient with rebuilding so the down years are few and far between.
Football wise, I've also been a Saints fan for the majority of the history of the franchise. Spending decades in futility, being a fan of arguably the worst team in the sport was tough to bear. Winning Super Bowl 44 was the culmination of everything great about being a fan. Believe me, the struggles make it so much sweeter. Keep the faith.

Highlight: Saints winning the Superbowl
Lowlight: We want the ball and we're gonna score (flippin' Hasselbeck)

As a wild fan, i as well, feel your pain!
What keeps me going is the future. With the wild, its hard to see a future, but with how fletcher is doing new prospects and draft picks, it doesnt seem so bad. Look at the houston aeroes (wilds farm team), there going into the playoffs in the top 3 position in the west! now, that doesnt help the wild much, but it does say that we may have some type of prospect pool.
It doesnt help either that we have an owner that "wants playoffs now!" for the wild. With the cap room being almost nothing for the wild.... i dont see much hope for next year or the year after... unfortunitly... but! after that i see a slight rebuild and we'll be better :) just say faithful in the wild and someday the cup will be ours!

Teams need to rebuild. Trying to "get the cup now" often doesn't work. You have to grow a team, look at Vancouver, regardless of changes at the GM position, this team has been in the making for about 10 years.
