How do you write a letter?
Honestly, I'm curious to compare with you guys...
The question is, how do you write a letter to a player?
Please show an example of the letter you would normally send.
I'll start-
Dear (player's name),
Could you please sign my card and mail it back in the envelope I already addressed? It would mean a lot to me.
(Here, it varies, if I'm writing to a current guy I say,)
Thanks, and good luck on a great season!
(For a former player, I write,)
It's an honor to write to a player of your caliber.
Then I write any personal message but sometimes there isn't.
ex. Great job winning the AA strikeout crown in 2008! (to Vin Mazzaro)
Your fan,
Me
I'm very succinct with my letters because I hate writing it out!

Try...
Could you please take time out of your busy schedule to sign my card/pic. I would really appreciate it if you would.

I tend to put more thought into mine, I also type them though which allows me to put more in a letter with still less time.

I would always type them but generally I don't have as much success. Maybe I'll try that so I can get more out!

I put MUCH more in mine. Usually mine are a full handwritten page with 2-3 paragraphs one of which is asking and thanking them for signing.

general rule for me- 1 page for 8x10, half page for card, always hand written
form: big fan and collector, please sign, know you are busy thanks for taking time, would like to add this to my collection, have other teammates/hofs/ etcs in collection, something nice about them/their team/their career, thanks and good luck

I had a big dropoff in my successes and I think it was when I decided to write 1 paragraph letters on index cards. It looks like I just wrote them in 2 seconds and threw them in.
I recently started to fill up 2/3 a page of loose leaf paper now. Works much better.

My letters are generally three-quarters of a page (double-spaced) and for the most part about how I am a fan of them, respect them, etc. Only at the end do I add, "I'd be honored if you would please sign the enclosed (fill in the blank) for my collection. Thanks a lot; I truly appreciate it!"

I never write the same letter twice, they're always different. I first introduce myself, tell them I'm a fan, I attended this game or that etc, go on to write about their career, ask for an autograph and then I wish them the best. For some reason I always apologize to them for taking away their time but then I thank them for that too.
