Good read. I personally feel that if its my shop then its also my choice of whether or not any customers get to use my restroom. If you let just anybody use the facilities then before you know it they will be griping about the type of T.P. you carry.

preach on brother...not to mention when i rambled on my cameras cant see in the bathrooms and lord knows how many singles and what not went in the bathroom and then out the door. having a public bathroom would be a great thing but when it hurts my profit margin theft, vandalism, horrid messes. Its worth it to lose a few customers to me to prevent all of those problems. like anything else my store isnt a democratic nation and all arent created equal who walk into the door. its a dictatorship what i say is the law. people dont like it they can drive the extra 50 miles each way to the nearest card shop lol

In this situation I feel that being it was a young kid and you were a repetitive customer I would of let you use the restroom. I also feel that in many cases, people take advantage of public restrooms and don't respect the store in terms of keeping the place clean. I have walked into way too many public restrooms that were such a disaster to the extent of me walking out and telling nature to hold on a minute.
I would hate to be the one cleaning up after a mess, heck I even hate cleaning my own bathroom at my house and it's my own mess!
I see both sides of the spectrum and agree with both to an extent.

I think it should be on a case by case basis. If he knows you and has seen you multiple times, he shuld had let you use the bathroom especially for a kid. But he has the right to say no also. Is kind of mesed up when u r talking about your son. I have kids also, but that is their right. I would be mad too but I would not stop going tp a hop that I like, unless you can find another in the area.

This post is dead on.
If I went to my local LCS and my kid, or myself even, needed to use the restroom then hopefully they'd allow me as he's known me for 15 years.
If he said No then that is totally his choice - and I can tell you personally, if I owned a card shop or any other business, I'd say NO 99% of the time people asking to use my restroom.
Totally case by case basis - but to stop going there, just for this reason, is insane.

Wow, 3 pages of posts on this topic....who would have thought. Anyway, that's why I run an online card shop so I don't have to worry about this issue. Kidding of course.
Being a father of two I understand your frustration. You never know when an emergency is going to hit a kid. Hands down, the guy should have let your son use the facilities.
