Postage question

My question is how much postage does it take to send cards thru the mail? For years I've only been putting one stamp to send the cards (return envelope and note to of course) out. They always come back with one stamp as well. That's until recently. The last handful I sent out they wanted a stamp plus a 20 cent stamp each (64 cents). I thought maybe I just hit a militant mail person. Well, yesterday I got some others ready to mail and put them in the mailbox. The mail person didn't even take them! So am I hitting a mail carrier that a stickler/angry or have they changed the rates and I didn't know it? How much does it cost everyone else to mail cards out? Any help would be appreciated. How many cards do you put in there?

I know I can put up to 3 cards, a letter, a SASE inside the bigger envelope with one stamp with no problem.

Whoops! I forgot that part. I only put two cards, at most. Many times only one. I do put a decoy behind them to keep from bending. So I guess you could count that as one as well. Three at most.

Must be a bad postman I assume. I have sent over 100 like that and have never had any RTS because of insufficient postage.

as long as it doesnt go over 1 oz. I have put 4 cards in and it only weighs .7 oz. So you shouldnt have a problem

if i was you, i would catch the mail man & ask him/her what the problem is.. then ask for there name & go directly to the post office & speak with a manager about the situation. Then while your there, just go ahead & get a P.O. Box because i doubt your mail man will be very happy to with you, if he is in the wrong & gets a talking to. Then your returns could really diminish because he might either pitch them in the trash or keep them.

Sounds like I just have a grumpy mailman. I didn't think it should cost more than one stamp. I never did before. Thanks for the help everyone!

They have a fee of I believe 20 cents for 'rigid' mail now. I have one lady at my post-office that charges it(learned the hard way when she asked if there was anything rigid in the envelope and said no and she bent it in half) so I just avoid her.

Sounds like I've encountered the rigid mail rule then. I'm afraid not to put the protective decoy in there if they bend mail. My question is why would the USPS be in the habit of bending people's mail, regardless of what is inside? You would think mail would be easier to handle/process if it were a little sturdy but I'm not a mail handler.
