    Brighter Future: Subban V. Seguin

Just wanted other collectors input. . .I have a YG of Subban and its worth quite a bit but I have noticed defensemen's rookies aren;t really worth much in the long run. Will Subban buck this trend? Or would it be wiser to invest in a Forward like Seguin? I have no real interest in Subban and kind of want to get rid of it if this is just a Strasburg/Harper type hype. Any thoughts?

D-Men do not get hobby love unless their lastname is 3 letters long, and consists of only 2 different letters.

    LOL - agree with above.

Based on everything I have seen Forwards will do better in the long run.

I personally can't stand the arrogance of Subban but he has one heck of a slapshot!

The other variable is the whole Montreal Canadian fan base. There are a lot of them and they are not scared to pay money for cards they want.

Not sure you can go wrong either way but I personally would lean towards Seguin.

    Good luck with your choice.

As long as P.K. wears the bleu blanc et rouge he will be something of a force in the hobby. Seguin may end up in the Joe Thornton echelon of the hobby - a guy that is well-liked and has a solid number of collectors, but if recent years are any indication unless you're the #1 pick and you live up to the hype your values will drop off big-time. Just look at Tavares and how quickly he dropped this year.

I have forgotten about Tavares haha I think NY will be good next year though. Might invest in him instead. I don't know much about Seguin either but I saw he played a lot and scored little besides that one playoff game.

He definitely got hot at just the right time. Playoffs are where instant legends are made - just ask anybody that made a ton of money selling their Jaroslav Halak cards last spring. Can get all of that for a fraction of those peak prices now.

    Well said.

In Seguin's case people are just getting a glimpse of what is to come, IMO.

The Boston collectors are nothing to sneer at either. There's a reason Seguin went so high in the draft; he's got amazing skills. He doesn't have a reputation for being supernice himself, which I think probably helps his value, strangely. I think his stuff is still undervalued.

PK does carry value but I think there's a ceiling with him Seguin has the potential to reach past.

As Rich said, Subban will be huge in this hobby because he plays in Montreal, therefore I am going to go for PK to have a brighter future in the hobby.
