Once Redemptions expire...
And you're buying still sealed boxes from previous years...are they still worth the value with the redemptions gone?
The reason I ask this is I have maybe $150-$200 to spend next weekend when a friend is back in town who used to collect...mentioned I was back into the hobby, so we were going to hit up a LCS and buy some boxes to open...now my question is this...I could get perhaps 1 box of say SP authentic/game used/SPX or crown royale/certified of 10-11 plus a box of say o-pee-chee or donruss just to crack extra packs...OR, 2-3 boxes of 08-09 SPX and BAP hobby boxes(they list ithe SPX online for $79.99/box instead of the $119.99 and $134.99 that the 09-10 and 10-11's are going for) The LCS does say the redemptions on 08-09 JUST expired...and the box cost dropped from 104.99 to 79.99 on the SPX, and the BAP dropped from $124.99 to $89.99...was 08-09 littered with redemptions to cause this price drop? Would it be worth it on the risk I might get a redemption that's no longer redeemable, but could also get some big hits from the cards that would have been produced when the set was released and double up on some of the other autos/memo/SP's (i.e. gretzky auto or crosby jersey or something)
Thoughts? opinions?

In the case of the BAP, they had all of the rookie redemptions for the 09-10 rookie class, so that's a fairly major selling point. If those can't be redeemed, and they come at one per box or so, that's a pretty big value drop.
For SPx, if my memory serves just about all of the major players were live in the product. The rookies were all live and I can't recall Crosby/Gretzky being redemptions for it. It'd be mid-level or multi-player auto cards.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

2 of the 08-09 SPX boxes might be the best option then for the price...guaranteed 2 rookie jersey autos, 2 rookie jerseys, 2 WM, 2 WC, and a few other shortprints...not too shabby for $150, plus would hopefully end up with completed base set after 2 boxes

02-03 SPx has Two Rookie Redemptions per Box. You'd get zilch for them now.

Even if you hit an outdated redemption that you can't redeem, isn't 3/4 of the fun just BREAKING the box, and then PMing all the traders you know that you HAVE that card they're looking for?
If you snag an outdated redemption, and this may be a little underhanded- but I'VE been screwed enough- sell it to some schmo on ebay. Most of the COLLECTORS will know the redemption expiry date.
Yeah, it's kinda gross, but so is getting an already scratched, and redeemed Rookie JSY auto redemption in the mail that you have paid a bunch of money for....
Or, just bust the boxes and enjoy it. Sorry for ranting.....
