This is what the article reads? This is coming from Thompson.Dont know how you missed it.
First of all, LeBron is a good friend of mine, he’s like a big brother to me, but I felt he did was best for LeBron James. But me and Kyrie, we’re coming in as Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson. We’re just going to come in and do whatever it takes to help the team win and just put our hard hat on.”

I honestly believed Chris Grant drafted Thompson for another team, and the Raptors (of all teams) duped Grant. Grant drafted Thompson to trade for Valunicias(sp?) and another pick down the line. He obviously got the feeling that Toronto wouldn't take him at 5, and sure enough they did.
Bottom line is this: The best YOUNG player on your team going into the draft was JJ Hickson. REGARDLESS of how good you think Thompson can become, you don't use the #4 pick in the draft on a clone of the one young, good talent you already have on the roster. There's no way getting around it. Grant can say whatever he wants, but it's pretty clear what actually happened. He got duped.

I feel kinda bad for Thompson. We are stuck with him and it doesn't seem like we really wanted him, he is like an accident child, haha.
But honestly, the more I think about this pick, the more I am fine with it. I still think we reached for him, but whatever, it happens. The reason I'm beginning to except it is because this guy has potential to be 2x better than Hickson. Offensively, Thompson is very similar to where J.J. was as a rookie. He is very raw and needs some molding. J.J. has turned into a very good offensive player when his mind is in the game. If we can mold Thompson the way we did Hickson, we will have a stud. Thompson is a smart player and he is a good defender, where smarts and defense are J.J.'s biggest weaknesses.
Just picture Hickson if he were a smart player and a good man defender. We would have one of the best young PF's in the league. With Thompson being very raw on offense, having the same build and athleticism as J.J., and having the smarts that you can't coach, I think he could very well become a stud one day.Last edited by selby56; 06-24-2011 at 06:00 PM.

he definatly has a higher cieling than JJ... Chris Grant is making it sound like they had thompson 2 or 3 on there board LOL. I think basketball "smarts" is somewhat of an overrated trait. Yes, JJ can definatly limit his turnovers. I agree, Tristan already has defense coming out of college that JJ didn't have. He also has better rebounding than JJ coming out of college. But JJ's offense was better than his. JJ has improved it as well... I hope Thompson improves his Jumper and free throws soon, then he will be one of the better players at the PF in the NBA
