It was a lot more common in the 90s.

You'd see players get RCs when UD and Pinnacle used to make World Junior Championship cards (and the UD went a step farther, and did 'Program of Excellence' getting Team Canada's U18 team).

A lot of times those players wouldn't make their debuts until 1, 2, even 3 years down the road. They'd get a card of them made that said 'Rookie' on it, but it was never considered a rookie card.

Now - I stress that there is no rule that Upper Deck can't make a Young Guns card of players who appear in late season issued RCs from Panini.... but I would be VERY surprised it they did. No way they'll use up those cards, when they know collectors will never accept them as rookie cards. Between late season debuts this year (that did not go into UD or Panini sets) and early seasons debuts next year...... that's what they'll use to stuff the Rookie content.

OHHHH so they can be included in rookie sets just aren't considered "true" rookies to collectors. Thanks guys!
