Hello from New York
Hello:
I am Joe and I was an avid collector back in the day but then marriage, kids, second career, etc. came in to play and I just never had the time to get back in to the hobby. I would like to get involved again but I am not sure what I should be doing.
I have a decent collection and I normally collected favorite players only but I want to get a little more involved but I am not sure what is the right way. Should I be buying packs where I can pull a Bryce Harper rookie or should I just try to have fun and whatever happens, happens?
How many are in the card collecting game to pull a phenomenal rookie card and sell it to make a profit? I would guess most? Am I maybe considering getting back in to the hobby at the wrong time? I have read a few articles where the writer says the hobby is dead.
I hope my first post here at SCF makes sense.
Thanks,
Joe

Hello Joe.
The hobby is definately not dead here. It's our bread and butter. I honestly can't comment on the Harper question because I don't really follow new releases. I do not collect for profit, just the enjoyment of the hobby, and am mostly a team/player collector. I'm not sure what you mean by get more involved. Being a player collector can get pretty involved depending on the players/how many players you collect. I would say just find something that interests you, go with it, and have fun. LMK if you have any questions about the site. I'll be happy to help in that area if I can.
Matthew.

welcome to scf, joe. Obviously the hobby isn't what it used to be back in the old days. There are so many products out and overprinting, it slowly maturely drove collectors away. And the slumping economy doesn't help too. But card collecting is still alive, so enjoy and have fun.

Welcome to SCF Joe ,, hobby is very much ALIVE , as far as you question goes , there are several ways to go about this , always fun to bust open packs and boxes ,,get lucky pull that bigtime rc auto or something , I have personally found it to work out better and more cost effective to purchase and trade for the specific cards I want for my PC , and I do most of my buying and trading here on SCF
Godd Luck

Hello Joe,
Welcome to the site. I do not collect for profit here either. In fact, I've never sold a card on this site. If I were you, I'd find a fun niche, whether it be collecting rookie cards, autographs, ect, and stick to it.
