    Hello

    How's it going?

I'm not new to collecting memorabilia but fairly new to collecting game-used cards. I'm on a couple of other sites but wanted to check this one out. I've collected in-person (IP) auto's for a long time. For baseball HOF'ers I get an OMLB and a photo, either 8x10 or 16x20, depending on the player. For football HOF'ers I get a mini and a photo either 8x10 or 16x20 signed like I do in baseball. From the mid to late 90's until around 2006 we did not have many show's, with signers in Upstate NY. Then a promoter from the city started doing shows up here. In September 2009 he had a Met's reunion show bomb and that was the last show he did here. I could have told him there are a lot more Yankees fans than Met fans up here. With the economy the way it is/was and for $400-$700 to have a ball/bat/jersey signed by twenty some members of the team it was a receipt for disaster. After that I started to collect game-used cards. I started on a mission to get a game-used card of every HOF'er and then in midstream I decided to get a bat and jersey of every HOF'er who had both. I do collect an occasional cert now and then..Rick

Thank you all and hopefully we can all do a few trades. I'm only missing one baseball HOF'er and then it will be onto football HOF'ers. Unlike baseball I'm going to try to limit myself to ONE game-used card of each. Key word, try. I'm looking forward to achieving ten post's so I can see all of your links. Thanks again...Rick

    Welcome to SCF Rick.

Four to seven hundred to go to a show in the middle of a recession? Brilliant! That promoter must not have had his head screwed on straight. Regardless, good luck on getting that last HOF'er. Maybe if you pop into tonight's New Member Chat from 8-10 PM eastern, somethere there might have one to trade you. ;)

Hope to see you there and happy trading.

    Matthew

    Thanks guys!!!

Matthew, I guess you could have gone and got an individual graph from one of the twenty some Mets who were signing for $15-$30, but the whole premise of the show was to get the whole team. I went for a Buster Douglas graph and there were only a handful of people there getting Mets graphs. To top it all off, I talked to the promoter a couple of months before the show to try to get a group discount for members on another site and he said to me, "What, you want to be the promoter".

Don't hold being a NY fan against me. If I had grown up in a different state I'd be a hometown fan. When you go to games as a little kid that experience usually sways which way you root. I'm not a typical New Yorker. I root for the Yankees in the AL and the Mets in the NL. The Giants in the NFC and the Jets in the AFC. I also root for the Cubbies. Too much time has passed for the franchise and it's fans. I'd like to see them win it in my lifetime, even if it's against the Yankees. I do despise Mantle. I'll show my age. When I was seven or eight I waited outside of the stadium for over two hours to try to get an auto. There was only myself and one other kid. When Mantle came out he said "get the f away from me you little bass t*rds". I've told this story numerous times and people say give him a break, he was drunk. I tell them, drunk or not that's not how you talk to young kids.

I live about 40 minutes from Cooperstown. If anyone ever needs anything from there or if anyone wants a graph during HOF induction week just let me know. I don't charge for my service and I'm willing to pick up a ball, ect to save on shipping cost to me.

Matthew, I'd like to join you guys for the chat tonight but with no sleep last night and an early day tomorrow I may not be around long. Hopefully within the next couple of days.

I know when I joined a forum at another site, I sent seven PM's out and only two people responded. It sorta made you feel unwelcome. In just a couple of hours and a bunch of people responding to my post it seems like this forum is a totally different animal.

Enough of me rambling, thanks again...Rick
