Don't worry, we'll be passing the futility torch to the Habs VERY soon. Count on it.

And since I'm derailing the thread, I'd like to play a round!
"Only in Montreal do fans whine and complain to get the local police involved in matters the local police shouldn't be involved with"
"Only in Montreal can fans continually point fingers at the Leafs and their lack of success while failing to realize their own team is mediocre at best, is getting worse, and stands to be that way for far longer than the Leafs will be bad."
(I guess fans in Calgary will be suffering the same fate, so I'm really not so sure that was a fair "only in...".)
"Only in Toronto can the best, most knowledgeable fans in the hockey universe meet and discuss the league at a depth not seen anywhere else in the hockey world"

I'm sorry but the last one was waaaay too much to swallow.
Most knowledgeable fans?
Seriously, you must have laughed out loud writing that one.
I don't see how the Habs are getting worse, but I guess those blue glasses you view the world through are worth their weight in gold. (I would have said silver, but the only silver the leafs will ever see again is the silver anniversary of cupless years)

I was playing up the stereotype. One of the reasons people seem to hate the Leafs is because they think we Leaf fans tout ourselves as being, well, what I described here. I think we're certainly very knowledgeable, and our media pumps us full of hockey knowledge (not only Leafs stuff) constantly, though I personally would never make such a ridiculous claim that we are "number one" or whatever. It's those loud-mouth dumb Leaf fans that go off making ridiculous claims that give the rest (most) of us a bad name.
But I knew it was going to get some... shall we say, negative reactions, haha.
tongue-in-cheek, of course. In all honesty, I'm so used to hearing the bashing... I know where the Leafs stand in non-Leaf fans' eyes. It's not good, lol.Last edited by ravens_creed; 08-20-2011 at 12:15 PM.

Only in America they put teams where there are no real ice ponds.
Only in the NHL can the commish not cash in on a Great Olympic format.

Actually, for Canadians, it's mostly that on Saturday nights Quebec gets the Habs game and the rest of us are forced to watch Ron Wilson pretend he knows what he's doing.
The Americans just picked up the hate and ran with it.
With that said, the Leafs have been so bad for so long that they're dangerously close to becoming my "total underdog" team to cheer for.
Ultimately though, it's impossible for me to cheer for Toronto, Calgary, Chicago, Boston, Colorado or Minnesota.
