bgs 9.5 is far more valueble then psa 10. i dunno about the bgs 9 to psa 10 sort of conversion but definitely bgs 9.5 to psa 10.

I am sure that plenty of our SCF members can elaborate more on this topic than I can, being that I have never submitted cards to either of the leading grading companies. Still, I have a right to MY opinion! LOL! Personally, I have always felt that Beckett should NOT have gotten into grading, because it conflicts with the price guide they publish. Oh, sure they will tell you that they REPORT sales prices, but they don't tell you that they are a MAJOR INFLUENCE and theoretically drive the market! PSA has always been the front-runner in my eyes, although they have lost ground over the years due to the expense of their service(s).
I wanted to comment on your statement regarding who "gives better grades" as I strongly believe that these leaders do NOT do that. Instead, your submitted cards must EARN the grade they receive. If you want a high grade GIVEN to your card, then I know that there are several poor grading companies out there that will do this for a smaller fee. Be warned, YOUR cards will most likely receive a grade much LESS than you had thought --- these leading companies are strict! How can I say this, not having submitted to them? Well, a few years back I did submit to SCD (Sports Collector's Digest), who have now gotten out of this industry. At that time, they were in the Top 3, and I would say that more than half of my cards came back with grades much lower than I thought. In retrospect, this was a GOOD thing, because it taught me to be more selective when I pursued VINTAGE cards.
Final thoughts...if you are planning on grading anything recently issued, it should be a autograph/memorabilia card, otherwise it is cost prohibitive. If you want to trade/sell ANYTHING vintage 1980s or older, and it books at $25 or more, you would be best advised to get it professionally graded. Whom you decide depends on your tastes, as the market is subject to change! Hope this input helps... I would love to hear from others.
Thanks!
Steve

2.What will be worth more a PSA 10 or beckett 9.5???
BGS 9.5 will almost sell for more than a PSA 10
3. Can a beckett 9 get an psa 10???
In most cases I would say yes. I've seen some PSA 10s with 70/30 centering...which would knock the card down to an 8 if it was graded by BGS. I would say that a PSA 10 is a little better overall than a BGS 9...but a PSA 10 can't compare to a BGS 9.5.
4. Please vote which one is better in your opinions.
BGS has tougher standards and higher secondary market values
5.What cards do u send in for grading...
Usually only big name rookies that I know will get a minimum of a BGS 9 but most likely a BGS 9.5. By getting a 9 in my opinion is just salvaging the card...If I get a 8.5 or lower on newer stuff I bust them out of the case and back into a top loader - worth more that way.
6.Are most HOT RC worth it to send them for gradings?
Only if you can get a decent grade on them (BGS/PSA 9 or better). I have an 89 Upper Deck Griffey that I only project to get an 8 or 8.5 so I don't bother spending $10-$20 to get it graded.

Also, and this is NOT directed towards you bj, but I would NEVER recommend paying $20+ to have ANY card graded - that's absurb! Just my .01 saver's worth!

I bought a John Elway RC for $30 at a card show...sent it in to BGS and paid the grading fee plus insurance and shipping which came out to approximately $20...got it back a 8.5 which booked for about $125 at the time. So now I have basically paid $50 for BGS 8.5 John Elway 84 Topps RC. Turned around and sold it on Ebay for $90.
So paying $20 to get it graded and up the real Ebay selling price by $50...is a $30 profit. In this case it is clearly worth paying the $20 grading fee. But would I get a 1991 Donruss Ken Griffey Jr card graded for $20? Hell No!
But it is only a waste of money if you make it a waste of money. Make sure you send in quality cards in quality condition and the grading fee will be a drop in the bucket. Also, the more cards you send in the lower price per card.

bjf ~ You are dead on! Thanks for clarifying about the bulk discount. I was re-thinking my "not worth $20 to grade" claim, and then thought about coming across a '52 Topps attic find! I would probably eat the $20 if I had a vintage Mantle to grade! Speaking of grades and BGS, I did some research after my last post and guess what I stumbled upon? A set of '84 football w/ some graded RCs! Have you seen my separate post? LMK what you think...
Thanks,
Steve
P.S. ~ Do any old-timers out there have anything good to say about PSA? I would love to hear something... txs
