If you have never gotten a card graded before, then you may want to hold off on getting that one graded. Sure if it grades high it can potentially increase value, but if you get say an 8, 8.5 from PSA or Beckett, or an 88 from SGC, then you will get screwed when it comes to resale value, especially when it comes to being sold on Ebay. I have cards that I swore were 9 or 9.5's yet came back to me as f-ng 8's. Yet other cards I sent in at the same time that I could see a detectable flaw (or one I thought was a flaw) yielded a 9 and 9.5. I won't be sending cards to be graded by any company again, I don't care who it is. Some guy in some office has some completely arbitrary way of judging a card, and it all depends on how he or she is feeling when the look at your card. It doesn't really matter to me what you do with your card, but I am just letting you know what happened when I sent in cards to be graded.
THere are horror stories about PSA grading an auto as fake when in reality it was real and there have been more than a few fake autos that seemingly got approved and deemed authentic. PSA will never let you know about those, but if you do your research on the web you can find out some frustrating things about PSA and other card grading companies.

Wow!
At first, paul06901 had a great idea... and then Xspunge shakes me out of my dream world! LOL! I do agree that the grading as an "error" would be beneficial, but I have also gotten back what I and other collector's/store owner's thought were NM cards coming back VF-EX and vice versa!
I mean chip flaking is visible coming off the back, yet it gets a 9.5? ™™™! I also strongly, STRONGLY believe that the grading cannot, in no way whatsoever be ACCURATE accross the board each time, unless there is only ONE PERSON doing it all, the EXACT SAME WAY, EVERYTIME! You are certain to eventually get a grader having a bad day, the need to go to the bathroom (ew, I hope they washed their hands before touching my card!), or the desire to bump up a card of their favorite player! It is simply the nature of the beast. The killer is, that we are paying for it...well, some of us are!
Excellent posts! This forum rocks!
Peace,
Steve

X-Spunge is right, however you can always break the card out of the case and it goes back to his ungraded value ;) , its definately worth the $30 or so on such a high end card, that has a huge potential increase in sale price if graded!
