Definitely not ebays fault....not sure why you are blaming them. 97% of my eBay wins are snipes, the other 3% are making offers.

Well, it said i was winning, until it expired
so i blamed ebay
i was pretty mad last night, im all good now...
title maybe should read mad at snipers.
i learned my lesson, now everything i really want, im setting outragous max bids on.
i still thik ebay should use the add 15 seconds to time limit, when a bid is added.
would make it better for everyone, seller would make more, buyer wouldnt get sniped etc.

Make sure that it's not a seller that is well-known for having a shill bidder account, or you'll end up paying $80 for a $20 card that you'd be sure to get for cheap otherwise.

at the end. do what you just said, at the end. you've learned your lesson. you've learned about sniping. now snipe your highest bid at the end. people bid higher becuase their bids aren't good enough. if you're "outrageous" bid wasn't there, they'd stop bidding when their first bid makes the new high. then you swoop in at the end with your outrageous bid and bid over them without giving anyone else the chance to overtake you or raise the price on you.
if someone outbids me, my fault for bidding early on and letting someone raise the price of the item when there's no need for it. if someone outsnipes me, kudos to that guy. i have no qualms with setting my max bid and having someone outsnipe me with a higher bid. its the stupid nickel-and-dime types that bid up just to raise the price on the item that i have a problem with.
also, you have types that will continually one click bid to get the best price possible. sniping alleviates that problem.

I agree with the posters that you should not be upset with eBay. They did nothing wrong. I understand frustration on losing out at the last second, but it will happen again. So, you have to some to grips with it.
It's sometimes a bad idea to use past sales as a benchmark for your highest bid. I recently won a Panini Dominion card which had several copies go for around $20. I was confident that I could get this one for about that same price. Dummy that I am, I got caught up in a bidding war and wound up paying DOUBLE what I had anticipated. Should I have let that card go and waited for the next one? What if there wasn't a next one?
Several years ago I passed on the opportunity to buy a Pacific Aurora Championship Fever (copper parallel) for my PC. The seller and I haggled over a $5 difference. Eventually, the seller walked away and that missed opportunity haunts me to this day.Hidden Content

This.
I figure out what is the absolute max I'd be willing to pay for it, and I set a snipe. If I'm outbid, then that person is willing to pay more than I ever would. If I say "I'll pay no more than $55 for this card", then why would I bid $60 on it? If someone else is willing to pay $60, then power to 'em; I hope they enjoy the card.

I once waited for 10 months for a card to come up on ebay to finish my sp authentic SOTT set. I had benn working on it for 15 months. When the Simon Gange came up in BC (it listed for $20) I put a bid in for $100. I was getting it no matter what. Won it for $12. If you really need it bid on on to the end.
