    Question The New Pastime?

I know it's a small sample using only 4 sites, but....

I see football posts outnumbering baseball posts with ratios ranging from 6:5 and up to 3:1.

Baseball season just ended, so one would expect more activity in that sport. However, it does not seem to be the case. Football chatting/posting was very active during the offseason as it was during the season. Is football becoming a more popular sport than baseball?

Football has been the number one sport in the US for years now I would say.

    Friday night.
Game 7 of the World Series.
    Both teams were not local.
The sports bar I go to wasn't crowded for this event, and even when the 7th inning came, more people arrived, but not like it was jam packed.

Roll back to the first Sunday in February.
    Super Bowl Sunday.
    Both teams were not local.
The bar was packed like a rush-hour subway car an hour before kickoff - not counting the tables in reserve.

So why not the same impact?
    Same circumstances.
    It was a winner-take-all game.
    Neither team was local.

Society has moved away from baseball because of the speed of the game. I would guess most baseball fans tend to be older.

The reason football is so popular to me is the same reason that MMA has become such a huge success. It is intense and fast paced and violent and that is where our society wants to spend their entertainment dollar right now.

Even though both were winner-takes all, there are seven WS games to watch. There is only one f-ball championship.

im a fan of both, but im more into baseball than football. i like watching football but i couldnt tell you 5 players from the rams. where as the cardinals i know everyperson on the roster lmao.

i grown up loving baseball since i was a kid, football as well but i just like baseball better i suppose.

baseball players are more talented imo, where as football in just playing catch.

But shouldn't there be the same level of excitement? I thought it should since it came down to a Game 7.

It's a lot easier to plan a party around the Super Bowl. It's one game, and you always know exactly when/where it is going to take place. With the World Series, you have up to four potential games that could end the series in two different cities. That's a little too dynamic to build a big event around. The MLB All-Star game is the big "event" game for baseball.

Okay not to start a debate or anything but this is absolutely ridiculous. Baseball players have better hand-eye coordination than football players but that's about it. If we talking sheer athletic ability this is a joke. Football players run faster, jump higher and are stronger than baseball players without a freakin doubt, its not even close. Even the 300lb+ lineman in football are quicker and faster than most the players out on the baseball field.
