lost in the mail question
so about 3 weeks ago I sold a card for $15 to a buyer in Canada on eBay. He claims he never received it and he has opened a case. I'm currently getting the tracking number out to check but what about the people who send standard mail(stamp) with no tracking. Have you ever had a case opened against you for the buyer never getting the item.
my final question is couldn't the buyer claim they never got it(even though they did) and get a refund(eBay favors buyers more than sellers).

Happens all the time! Tell the buyer to be patient, items between USA and Canada can take a month or sometimes more. If customs inspect the package that can hold it up for a long time.
Also, your last question, the answer is yes that could and does happen all the time.

frankly I am shocked that you even paid for tracking on a $15 item, more power to you though.

Does it really? In 1200 transactions over 5 years on various hobby sites and eBay I think I've only ever had 4 items not show (2 incoming, 2 outgoing) and have been involved in maybe 4 or 5 Paypal claims. I'm usually not that lucky.Last edited by Phoenix; 12-07-2011 at 07:05 PM.

I recently did a trade on this site with a very trustworthy member (all high positive feedback). The package I sent to him arrived with no problem. However mine didn't show. I chose to let him keep the cards ($80+ SV) and leave him positive feedback no matter what happens. I felt that it wasn't his fault, so why should he be punished. Needless to say, my cards showed up about a week later. Good karma always comes back to aid you in the end.
I think we have to look at the track record of those we buy/sell/trade with before conclusions are made.
My 2 cents.

Totally agree with this, it depends on if the buyer has all positive feedback or not, as they say once a scammer, always a scammer. Hope all works out for you.

3 weeks really isn't that long of a wait for an item coming across the border. It's amazing how little patience some people have.

I recently made a trade with someone on this forum and was informed after a month that the cards had not arrived. I asked them to give it a couple more weeks, at which point I would send their end back. I had the whole thing packaged up and ready to be shipped (2 weeks later) when I got a message saying the cards had arrived safely.
Sometimes stuff gets held at customs. If this guy has opened a case already, he probably has the card in hand and is ripping you off. Any reasonable person would not have opened a case so quickly, unless they new for a fact that the cards weren't coming, because they have them already and are planning on ripping you off.
The longest I've ever personally seen shipping take is 3 months (from Canada to Australia) the guy checked the postmark it confirmed that the package had indeed been sent over 3 months prior.
