When i say overated i mean people stress to much about % and having all the cards whatever the price is.I find it dosent make sense that a 4th year low # parallel auto will sell for higher then the most praise rookie cards of the same player.
The badge is cool but its only on this site, it dosent entitle you to anything in the real world or hobby world.
Ask Nathan or Pata if its worth making a big fuss over it.

You are being a bit childish thinking you can get all cards from a player. I mean this is just ridiculous to think like this. The card market is what it is and demand drive the price up and it's a fact. I can understand how you feel when almost no one collects him but anyone is entitled to collect him and the fact you don't seem to accept this is where you are ruining you fun of collecting. The fact you have a tag with super collector does just mean you get many of his card but to think you should be the only one aloud to bid on his rare card is just not realistic. Come back on earth and realize that anyone can want the same thing you want and do not have to deal with what you would ask them. This is why I used the word childish. You can't expect to tell anyone what to bid on. You can try but it stop there. Collecting is not about having every cards. Some in the hobby have a LOT of money and yet there there are cards they will never be able to buy even if they make crazy offer. I know I got a crazy offer from the Montreal show customer that as the most cash in his pocket and could have double my money on his offer. But I said no to him.
That is life, appreciate what you can afford and stop thinking about a fake title of supper collector. I mean what does this mean. Collectors like me could never apply to a super collector status because I collect a player way to popular. Imagine how I would feel collecting Carey Price if I would think like you do. Collecting should be fun. Trying to make a rainbow is not a right to all his card from that rainbow. This is why some love to get a shot at them because it is hard to achieve and you, you complain because you have very little competition and when you do, look at all your post here, I guess you must be young and lack life experience.
If you want to enjoy this hobby, stop putting in your mind that you should have all the cards of a player. It just not logical to think like that. To try is one thing and I think many of us would dream for this to be possible but the fact is that it's impossible. You can only do this with vintage as they were not making 1/1 and serials card. In our days, it's impossible.
Don't take my post bad as I am only trying to reason you that what you post make no sense to someone like me that has been collecting for more then 40 years. If you want to last in the hobby, think about having fun first. Trying to overpay for cards is not wise and more so with player not very popular because then if you need money one day, you might have problem to resell them.
Try to have fun and see rainbow as a almost impossible challenge and then when you complete one, you will be happy instead of being sad when you realize you can't do it.
At time I also remember a member that had a other one trying to buy all the cards he wanted. He had no real interest other then get that member mad. This was not cool but we could not do a thing about it. Can't remember who they were but maybe some member will remember, it was like 2 or 3 years ago. That life.

ok ok people, haha. it's not that i'm bummed, it's more frustration.
this is why i made the thread though, to get others thoughts. no need to give me a hard time. lol. it's all good
it's just been lately, like the past 5 months it seems i'm constantly bidding on rare ones and new ones with the same guy over and over. cards are being over paid for and i can't have money tied up like that. hense why i'm thinking of just selling now.
i'm not going to cry over it, i think you guys are taking things a little far with what i originally said.
i guess i'm over it. thanks for the input though, i did wanna see what others thought i should do and if i'm over reacting which the general consensus is. that's how you learn in life, keeping an open mind.

if your not enjoying the hobby then head in a different direction! The hobby is meant to enjoy!
As a player collector as well, it can get boring sometimes when I'm getting outbid on cards or if there isn't stuff getting posted on ebay that I need. I have nice little side PC's that I can work on when this happens so it keeps me enjoying the hobby.
I missed out on a nice Montoya Ultimate Shield and a 1/1 jumbo glove because they went for a combined amount of almost $400. I really enjoy collecting Montoya but $400 is about how much I spend on cards in a span of 6-8 month's. It was hard to pass on them but looking back now I'm glad I did because a lot of other nice stuff for my pc's has come up and I had the funds to pick them up.

I hear you!
I know of at least 5 other guys that collect Ranford (which is funny, becuase despite retiring over 10 years ago... the compitition has actually increased on eBay over that time). I've also recently seen multi-player cards sell for much higher than I would have expected..... because player collectors of one (or more?) of the other guys drove it up.
The fact that I collect a player that's long retired, but not a HOFer, also means that there isn't a whole lot out there for me to chase from year-to-year. Sometimes that's a blessing, sometimes it's a curse (I'll give all three companies credit for this year, so far, though..... there's been lots of Ranford for me to chase).
But there is NO WAY I'm ever going to be able to get everything, even with the limited number of tougher pulls out there.
My goal has always been to get one of every non-1/1..... and then add as many 1/1s on top of that as I can. The compitition out there though - I accepted a long time ago that I can't get them all (even if I could track them all down).
I can think of a couple of times where I've just had to say 'no'. I use sniping software on eBay, and put in what my max bid is. If someone else is willing to go over that (and it does happen) I simply don't get too upset over it anymore - they wanted it more than I did, they can have it.
Another good way to keep costs down - patience. A product that is heavily broken.... you'll usually see a good number of cards show up. That parallel /25 - I find if I wait for the 3rd or 4th copy, the price is MUCH lower than the first. Obviously some of the tougher stuff..... like a card /5..... you need to act a little quicker..... but recently I've even found myself saying 'no' to offers on stuff like that. If the asking price it too far away from what I think it's worth - I'm usually pretty good with my estimates, I'll get another for the price I want to pay.

30ranford - yeah good so you know how i'm feeling, and yes i guess i am being unreasonable thinking i can have them all.
but back to what really bothered me, is the rainbow sets. when i lost that dominion base 1/1, i almost went nuts. i was so mad cause the guy paid double what i felt it should have sold for, and it's certainly not cause he wants it more, i just don't have the money to fork out.
but yeah, i'm gonna have to learn to just not be upset and get as much as i can, i already have 100% of his rc's, it's just the parallel's like 1/1's that i'm losing.
it's all good though, i took what everyone said to heart and i'll just get what i can, but maybe i'll have to sell my pc off sooner than later too cause money is tough right now.

Only a base dude. Save your money for more important/cool things.
Good luck with your continuation.

germ - oh yeah i know it was only a base, but it would have given me the base rainbow /199, /50 /25 /5 /1.
what worries me is that when the auto dominion 1/1 pops up, the guy is going to spend over $100 for it, which is nuts!! i just know it. and that would also give me the rainbow and a better one. so no way i'm losing that no matter the cost.

If it makes you feel any better, a 1/1 memorabilia parallel of Irbe sometimes goes for over $500, whereas a non-memorabilia 1/1 never goes under $300 (and that is all with bidding).
