I don't like to overpay for anything, cards included. I am on tight budget and respect my limits. If I don't like the price, I'll pass. It's all up to personal preference. If you don't want to wait, you will have to pay a premium and but you risk not seeing another copy if you don't jump on it now.

For my Pc if I see something I need I'll make an offer if its not accepted most of the time I'll buy it anyway. If its for my pc and I know I won't be getting rid of it for many many years I have no problem $50 for something thats worth $30.
Thats just me.

I agree with everything that's said here, I am definitely willing to throw a substantial amount of money at a rare Malhotra card, especially if it's serial numbered /100 or less.

I'm the same way most of the time. Whether it's a 1/1, nice patch/auto or a common card, if I don't like the price, my collection doesn't need it that badly.
On the other hand, there are a couple of cards I've DEFINITELY overpaid/overtraded for and that's fine, because I liked the price.
Just me.

Patience will always pay off. It takes time and effort to look for the deals, but inevitably they are there. Be it 1, 5, or 10 years later.

for the more common stuff, i usually let others get their copies first and grab mine when convenient.
for 1/1's and shields and pretty cards that catch my eye, i go all out.

I think this largely depends on the PC. For example, a PC of Sidney Crosby or a superstar player you can almost be sure that 90% of the copies of each card will show up on the market. As such, you don't necessarily need to overpay because the card will show up many times. For myself, many Jeff Friesen cards rarely show up on the market, so when one does that I need I usually pay what it takes to get it into my collection because you usually don't see a second copy appear. To date, there are some parallels /100 that I've never seen one copy for sale or trade.
