My 2012 Hobby Resolutions:
1) Finish off FOUR insert sets I need the following FOUR cards for: 96/97 Game Jerseys (Mario Lemieux), 95/96 Ultra Gold Medallion Premier Pivot (Zhamnov), 95/96 Ultra Gold Medallion Rising Stars (Yashin) and 03/04 Exhibit Time Warp (Hull/Hull). I've been looking EVERYWHERE for these cards for a couple years now and the only one I've ever seen is the Lemieux Game Jersey, but always at a crazy price.
2) Resist the urge to expand my collection (as in which players I collect rookies of). I spend too much time and money as it is on this hobby (read: addiction), and if there isn't a narrow focus then I'm doomed.
3) Probably pare down my Yzerman collection. It's way smaller than it was once, but I really could cut it down even further. I think I'll just keep the cards I REALLY love, and probably get a few more as well. I especially like his all-star and Team Canada stuff. I have the curse of having my two favourite players be Yzerman and Datsyuk, and yet not liking the Wings. Yeesh!
4) Buy less cards overall, but make the ones I get more high-end and memorable.
5) Keep on slowly building the probably-impossible-to-finish 98/99 Gold Starquest set. Most beautiful set of all time, but so rare and so expensive. Why do I have to love them so muh? Haha, oh well. Even a few more would be nice for this year.
6) SPEND LESS TIME on this hobby. It takes up too much of my time I could and should be spending on other things (reading, work, exercise, hanging out, God, etc.). I do enjoy this hobby loads and don't want to give it up by any means, but I do want to limit my time per day/week on it.
What do you think? Are these good ideas? Do you think they conflict with each other? LMK!
Happy New Years everyone!Last edited by svbetts; 10-12-2012 at 06:36 PM.

Spend smarter. I'm not sure how much I spent last year(probably a lot), and I don't know if I will spend less this year, but I need to make better use of my money.

My resolutions from last year sorta worked out.
I wanted to reach 500 Brad Boyes cards (stopped working on that pc), but I DID manage to hit 250 Perry cards (over 300 now) and become more involved in the hobby and meet more peeps.
This year....here we go
1) Hit 500 Perry cards. I'd need to aveage about 15 a month. I think I can do it.
2) Find a new PC (contemplating David Backes)
3) Start and complete a set. Doesn't have to be crazy, just SOMETHING that I can finish off
4) Save up for a case of something (bigger than Victory)
5) Trade more. And 5b) Trade more without worrying so much about getting PC cards back
I think I can do these, but they will require discipline. Here's to 2012!!!

That's a good one. As I noted in my #1, I'm going to be very focused on the AU and GU for the Price collection this year. No more of this spending $$$ on inserts and such.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Great thread!
My resolutions...
1 Hit the 2000 Sedin mark (should be a piece of cake, as I'm a shade over 1,900 already, a couple parallel-heavy new releases should do it).
2 Reach 50 Sedin 1/1's (no plates) - sitting at 38 right now so one a month would do it. i figure I have an outside chance at this one.
3 Pick up at least 1 of the 3 Sedins from 03/04 that continue to elude me (took a break from the hobby that year to get married and have been trying to catchup ever since). I need Daniel Victory bronze x/199, Daniel MVP Gold x/25, and Henrik OPC red x/100.
4 I finally finished scanning my entire PC (fronts and backs) over the holidays... Resolution for this year (and hopefully early this year) is to nicely crop and organize the thousands of pics, and post them up on my website, plus do a nice show and tell here.
5 Apply for supercollector status. With over 98% of all Sedin cards, I figure once I complete resolution #4, supercollector is the next logical step.

Here we go...
1. Hit 200 cards in both my Backlund and Hernandez PC's (currently at 150ish for Backlund, 52 for Felix)
2. Get my first non-late PC 1/1
3. Hit 100 Trades at 100% here on SCF
4. Spend my money better, no more "I'm bored, so I'll bust some victory...", buy a PC card instead.
5. Finish adding every PC card (with scans) to the SCF inventory system.
6. More Baseball-ish but, get my first Griffey Jr. Auto (In a Mariners uni)
Great thread, I have a few more, but they are basically all baseball related.

2. Hit 100 cards in my Stamkos PC
3. Don't spend too much on wax, (wasted money on just tempting things this year)
4. Become known as the Stamkos or Tokarski super collector :D
