I dont really understand questioning Pominville's invitation to the all-star game? Hes been top 8-12 all year in points. Vanek got snubbed as well. Vanek and Pominville have both produced all year despite having terrible secondary scoring and tons on injuries. Also, they are currently being centered by Jochen Hecht of all people...
Brian Elliot as well is an obvious choice for the allstar game. Hes been an amazing surprise all year.
Just because you dont normally see their names on the all-star list, doesnt mean they dont belong...

Ovechkin said he is not competing in the Skills competition. Or perhaps this is his last year of it? I know he's not doing it anymore.

Apparently he said it yesterday to the DC media before the game against the Bolts.
I don't know why. Joe Bennenatti commented only that he would not be competing in the Skills. I did not hear however if he meant for this year's A/S game or in the future.
All players have a choice to compete or not, they are not bound by any contractual obligation to compete in the skills.
