Thoughts on the eBay box breaks

Every now and again ill grab a cheap team just to watch the break on you tube for some excitement. Last on was Philly for an Artifacts box and managed to hit Carcillo Emerald /99 and Bryzgalov jersey /135 for 3$dlvd. Lucky no doubt lol. As an investment though, the people doing this are pretty smart. I just grabbed a leafs pick in a Limited box for the hell of it, and I went back and calculated how much he made off that box as I was curious. Added up the sale value of all 30 teams for it to be:

    165.72$!!!

With only 7 cards per pack the maximum shipping cost will be like 14 or 15$, so take that off and its 140$. The boxes are 100$ so an easy 40$ profit? Esepcially if people are buying by the case and doing this they are making even more again. Hard to believe this is an easy way to make money lol

I've done won a couple of box breaks as well but only bid on the cheap ones. I won an Artifacts Sabres last night but havn't watched the Youtube yet. Won a few cards beforetoo. Nothing spectacular though, I like thrill of the chase but won't spen more than $5 on a slot.

When calculating profit don't forget to add your Paypal and ebay costs which could eat up alot of the profits. If you can get a case wholesale it might be worth it for a little extra cash.

yeah thats true I guess, 140$ - 8% final value = 128.80, then some paypal fees, I guess either way still makes about 20$ off a box when all said and done, if buying cases then maybe 30$, either way making a 20$ profit off a box on ebay and u get the fun of opening it is a win win really.

I like cheap teams too, but I'll spend a few dollars more to take my PC team.
I was in a BD break yesterday with the Canucks, Tampa, and Washington (why i bid on washington i'll never know..) I hit an Edler jersey - PC - so I was moderately happy.
In a limited break right now with the Preds (yuck) which i only bought cause it was 3 bucks and I figure if I hit something..well blue moons and all that (I tried taking the Canucks too but someone used the "1-click bid" and got me at 1 second)

But yeah, it can be a really good money maker, especially if someone gets in a bidding war. The BD break I was in the total was $112.04 which is actually negative profit in the end.

Edit: On the other hand the limited I'm in totaled $157.86, the maximum he will have to ship is 7 cards...with fees, depending on the price he paid for the pack, I'd say he made about $35.

The Preds in limited are many. A very good team actually for hits, they have a few rookies in the series and a few stars....all in all not too bad.

    Hope you hit a few!!

I did take a quick look through the checklist, and that's why I bid on them. Here's hoping :D

I go into these many times.
I usually take Canucks philly and a couple times Ive tried my luck with oilers.
Best hit I got was in my very first time doing a group break and it was with certified. I bought Colorado and Canucks which totaled for $17.50
I hit 1 card in the break and it was a Luongo Dual Patch auto /10 when I got it in hand I threw it on ebay and less than 24 hours it was sold for $80.
That is why I keep doing that for hopes of that to happen again.

more and more people are going on ebay and selling box breaks so pretty soon there will be to many people and less people are going to make a profit

Ive also done case breaks from the Cup and Limited and got Winnapeg for Limited (got nothing) and LA for the Cup (got nothing)
But in the future I will do more case breaks because there fun and there is a chance to hit something really big in the case

If I were doing it I wouldnt mind losing a profit just because it would be fun opening the box and it would get my feedback score up extremely fast considering I only have 11
