    release delays

Sorry to rant but I'm starting to fume over this. The latest is SPX, I still thought it was 31st january and was just about to call my LCS for an order, and then find out it's been pushed to March?? It's unexcusable these constant delays, and spx + spgu usually are released this time of the year, it's tradition. We're in the middle of a hot hockey season, NOW is when you want to buy boxes, not in the middle of a hot summer, that's when all the really good stuff is delivered nowayds, summertime, pff. Personally I think if the Cup, SPA etc were released now it would sell out so quickly the companies would go into shock. And Panini: if you're really smart, release Dominion in March. April or latest May, you will get all the attention long before the Cup.

Anyway, if any other company(ies) with other customer items would push the deliverydates like this they would go out of business. Disgusting.

I'd rather wait and have no redemptions. Gives my wallet time to recharge as well. Plus, delays now are fine as I actually have hockey to watch and hold me over. Releases in the summer are cool since it helps pass the time when there's no hockey to watch.

I don't think much about hockey in the summer, plus money is often scarce then. And if you've saved up money and been excited for a release a certain date only to find out it's been delayed once, twice or three times, it's just insulting. It happens gain and again, it can't really be that hard to foresee it within the company as it always repeats. Why not somply say from the beginning "ok this will released in March", and if it would get released earlier it's a positive surprise. The way they're doing now is like mocking the customers. Just imagine if you've prepaid, does Upper Deck think people are made of money, or are they only concerning themselves with rich collectors? Sorry, I think it stinks. A few mistakes ok but not again and again. Like I said, any other business run like this would go bankrupt. Collectors are way too kind to put up with it. It's not like we have a choice cause we're all suckers and want it anyway.

And to be honest, ITG sure don't have problems like this... not even Panini to the same extent.

I don't think there's been a licensed product in the past year that has a significant amount of autographed content in it that has been released on time. Virtually everything has been delayed at one point or another. If you look at the sticky thread product calendar and sift through the original posted release dates, I'd be shocked if any actually were on time.

A reason why I'm not busting as much as before are those effin redemptions. I hate them. Honestly even with regular cards you get redemptions(artifact RCs). Why oh why?? Postpone all releases a couple of weeks/months and make sure all cards are inserted instead of waiting years for a card...

Artifacts is designed as the "pre-season" release. Usually late september. Its the product that upper deck uses to jump start the season. Thats why it is very predictable, has sticker autos, and rookie redemptions.

If they waited another month and a half to allow the rookie crop to get their games in, then Artifacts wouldn't be the same. In my opinion it is a perfect product for where it is in the release calendar.

The Artifacts redemptions are a special case. It allows UD to get the top names of the season included in the product despite the early season release date. Without those redemptions, they have only the hold-over RC's to help sell the product and that significantly weakens it. Without the redemptions, we would not have Artifacts RCs of virtually every major player to debut since the lockout.

They're putting too much into the products, to be honest, many of these brands from midend and up, most of us won't even see half of the sort of auto/gameused inserts that exist, perhaps they should cut down the number and thus cut down the need of redemptions. But like I said, if they know it'll take time, just be honest about it and put a late release date from the beginning. Like how it is now it's just a joke. Cause sometimes it is somewhat on time, within weeks at least, and other times it's months wrong. Disrespect, or incompetence, not sure which.

If I'm going to be cynical - Could be a way to screw around with the competition too, say if Upper Deck says they're gonna release this and that in X month, then Panini and ITG might reason "ok then we release then and then". But if Panini and ITG knew the truth from the start they could try and put out a hot brand in the absence from others. How it is now instead with bad luck one month could get really crowded and another emptier. Right now Panini must be happy, first they got Limited and now (if they're on time) Crown Royale in the absence of spx and spgu.

If a person doesn't buy any Panini or ITG products, who cares? I'll wait for the UD stuff.

I have an ideal.... now don't think too much into it as I have been saying this for the past 3 years. When UD is thinking of who to get to sign their famous stickers for autograph cards. Why don't they think ahead. Start 1 year in advance of the release date. That way they have a supply of autos of players.
As for GU'ed UD has destroyed the hobby by putting out pieces of players who hasn't played for the team in years, example Phil Kessel - Boston colours.
If they worked a year ahead, or at least got a extra few hundred auto's of players, it would allow them to stay closer to their release dates.
When your on time, you get the money, when you keep ticked collectors off you get the money, but not as much as you hoped for,.
