This. its the risk you take with older products. It sucks but there is an expiration date for a reason.

yeah, but if they would just start using good business sense, like i told the guy on the phone, if you intended for a card to be in say 05-06 spa, and you didn't have it in house in time, then dont put in redemptions, put it in 06-07 spa as a surprise, or print them earlier, and get them signed before the product is released. if i pull a redemption, the card was supposed to be there, i payed for it, it's my card. you shouldn't tell me "sorry no, we wont even check to see if it's in the warehouse." chances are the cards still there, I pulled 3 expired redemptions that expired before this one, called in december, was told to call back in january. i called, they said the chances of those cards still being there was very slim, they'd probably have to replace them with something else, a week later i get a package with all 3 cards, no replacements. they have alot of the expired cards still in their warehouse, but they dont want to look for them

Did anyone fully explain the legality and storage issues behind why they have expiration dates. It would definitely stink for someone who buys an old box off ebay or some leftovers at the LCS. I know I might consider buying older stuff at the LCS if it was cheaper because thats my budget plus there still are good hits in there.

I agree.... if they would honor these redemption's they would have no problem selling off old stock... usually boxes get cheaper year after year so it would allow us to pick up cheaper boxes and still sales and revenue to dealers...and might even do some good for the face of UD and their brand.... I find myself always looking for older product because it the new-old or old-new... lol you get bored of the same breaks on here... everything you see now is UDS2 and CR...lets see someone post a break of 2009-2010 Black Ice :D

They should honor them because you pay a price for the product and if there is a redemption you can't exchange then the price you pay on the box is not right.

Or are they using the extras that don't get turned in for NPNs?

here's how it usually goes with UD.

-if they have it in stock, they usually don't have any issues with sending it out.
-if they don't have it in stock, they might send you something else as an apology.
-if they don't have it in stock, they'll simply tell you there's nothing they can do.

either way, if the redemption is expired, there's really no arguing against it. companies aren't going to keep stockpiles in the event someone redeems something 10 years down the line. once redemptions expire, they try to use up the unredeemed stock (if they even have it at all) as redemption replacements for other people. there's a reason older boxes with redemptions usually have their prices lowered so much. you buy an old box, you're taking the risk.

think of it this way, would you call up Dell and ask them why they don't have Windows 7 drivers for a 15 year old printer you just bought off ebay? No, they discontinued that product and are no longer servicing it or offering support for it. same with older boxes and expiration dates.

+1. Simple date calculations suggest that a expired redemption is just that, expired. It's not rocket science.

I have no problem with it, my problem was they wouldn't even check to see if it was in stock, wouldn't look it up on the computer, wouldn't check the warehouse, nothing. if you replace a card in a pack with a sticker on a plain peice of cardboard, shouldn't that be considered gambling??? I know it's not a fair comparison, but come on, how many redemption cards are put into packs, and then they don't even end up making the card...

and no, I wouldn't call up dell, I would do what I normally do. Look for it myself online. Heck i'm running a computer that originally came with vista on it, but when the hard-drive burnt out, and I had to buy a new one, I figured I hated vista so much, it was either go with 7, or downgrade to xp. I know now that there aren't many issues with 7, but at the time it was brand new, and with how vista worked out, I wasn't taking any chances so I went with xp pro, and had to find the drivers for EVERYTHING on here.

Not trying to say UD HAS to honor redemptions, I know it's expired, I'm just saying if they would just check to see if it's there... I know they use expired redemptions as replacments. I know they give them out, and I know sometimes they just destroy them. But if it is in the warehouse, even if the redemption is expired, why can't I get the card? If they had actually checked to see if it was there, and said "No I'm sorry It's not in the warehouse anymore." I would have said "Ok, thank you for checking, Have A good day" and hung up the phone.
