take that up with Bauldie
my post was in response to his incorrect statement that "Duchene has never really grown off his rookie season."
ps. of course you can get game-used memorabilia cards for a buck or two ... just look at the glut of them that have been released since his rookie year ... your point has little to do with hobby love/value as well
you or anyone else can have all the Seguin cards you want
I'd rather have Duchene on my team

And he's on pace for 50 points projected over a full season this year. I don't call that progressing off a rookie season when you look at it as a whole.
12 point improvement and then regressing 17 points is treading water.
As for Duchene over Seguin? ...

Okay time for me to chime in!LOL My opinion is this. Right now I disagree with anyone who wants to talk about market area or points. I get Seguin plays in Boston okay. But here is the FACTS!
Seguin- 44 points to date in second year
Eberle- 54 points to date in second year
So explain to me why Eberle isn't selling for $100 per YG? Market makes no sense as he plays for the Oilers so that arguement means nothing to me. Edmonton is a far better market from Canada as Boston is to the US. For whatever reason Seguin got a little momentum and the hobby ran with it. While guys like Eberle and Skinner get 0 love from the hobby. Oh it's fine with me dudes! I would prefer it to stay that way for a while so I can stock up my Skinner PC for real cheap. Then when he finally gets some credit for being great on a sucky(SORRY CANES FANS) team I can reap the benefits! In the end it means nothing to me about this topic. I collect who I collect because I like them. But I disagree with some of the points here cause they make no sense to me. It's just my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own! I will not trash talk anyone because of their opinion. I will just disagree in a nice respectful manner, Brad.Super Collecting Jeff Skinner

Well said Brad, some of us collect because we can see some real potential in that player. It is kind of absurd the amount of money some YG's bring in, lacking an auto or even a serial number like /999. I just started collecting Duchene, mostly because he plays on the Avs and with Stastny. The season is looking grim for the Avs but I'll still root for them.

Seguin was THE young gun to get in the 10-11 Series 2 product, creating lots of interest. Duchene was in the same product with Tavares YG, and other top rookies from that year. It's more of a marketing type thing, Duchene is a great player, I think his YG should be higher than it is right now.

Edmonton and Boston are not the same. Boston is a far bigger hockey market than Edmonton right now because of their recent success.
Seguin also won a cup.. that's a big big factor. The rest are still playing on bad teams which does hurt their value.
It's not necessarily right but that's how it goes.Last edited by Bauldie; 02-13-2012 at 12:18 AM.

The other thing to remember when lumping Eberle in with Seguin..... Eberle is the 3rd young star on his team. I don't want to try and debate who is better - Eberle, Hall, or RNH (as an Oilers fan, I'm thrilled that all three are there) but there is more players competing for hobby dollars in Edmonton. The Oilers fans have three big guys to collect, which Eberle is the lesser of (at least for now) while the Bruins fans have one.
As others have already pointed out - YGs because of the collectibility of the set (it is VERY popular) see their prices inflated vs other cards that should be similar (or greater) in value.
If you compare the cards cross brand - The Young Guns are not really any rarer than the Donruss Rated Rookies from last season, yet they sell for a much higher price. Other UD products like Artifcats see their RCs sell for much less, despite being more limited. The collectibility of the set has a lot to do with this.
I would also point out though, these prices do not last. I think Tyler Seguin is a heck of a good player, and a better one than Duchene. Is he better than Toews or Kane in Chicago? You can pick those guys up for about $30 too (young guns, I'm talking about). They've also had some great success early on in their careers.
Seguin, compared to some more estabilished players, is also beneifiting from "flavor of the month". It's some weird thing that hockey collectors (I can't speak about the other sports) have. As a lot, we seem to get obsessed with the "next great young superstar" and pay a premium for his cards until another one comes along. Seguin is one of those guys right now.

You forgot that there is no equal to Hall/RNH in Boston for Seguin's cards to compete with.

let's not forget how hard (and expensive) it is to find boxes of 10/11 UD 2.

don't let facts get in the way
he played 81 and 80 games in his first 2 seasons
he's already missed 18 games since late December
sure he had 36 points last year in the same amount of games that he has 24 this year but he also has 1 less point than at the same amount of games of his rookie season
