Leafs Lock Up Grabovski for 5 Years
http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=389606
The Toronto Maple Leafs have locked up one of their key forwards for the long term, as the club announced Tuesday that they have signed Mikhail Grabovski to a five-year contract extension.
"We are extremely pleased to have Mikhail under contract for the next five seasons," said general manager Brian Burke in a team statement. "His speed and skill are valuable commodities and fit perfectly with our style of play. He leads by example and his work ethic speaks for itself."
In 59 games with the Leafs this season, Grabovski has scored 20 goals and added 25 assists.
After a career-year in 2010-11 in which he scored 29 goals and 29 assists, Grabovski struggled early this season scoring just 11 points through the first two months of the season. But he got hot in January, scoring 16 points for the month and winning the NHL's first star award for the third week.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

5.5 million per. A little steep, but he's been a good player for them.
Wonder if Modano will tweet about this one?

It is pricy but if you look at the list of free agents this summer, it's a pretty thin pool of talent to go fishing for on July 1. Other than Semin, there's not a lot of big dollar names, so that artificially inflates Grabo's value.

hehehehe.
The Flames shouldn't be critisizing any contracts until they've got Matt Stajan off the books.

5.5 Mil ???
Good for him. If I'm GM he's getting 3.9 Mil tops, but all the more power to him. He can now have relaxing fires in the Winter and burn $20 Dollar Bills.
Mind you if I was GM, nobody would want to play for a Cheap-skate like me.

If my entire understanding of the League comes from TSN commentators, isn't Toronto the one team that doesn't have to overpay for its players? (Maybe this snark is better reserved for Canadian player signings huh?)

Burke is dilusional signing him for that money. The Leafs slide continues. Nice to see Seguin show him up again tonight.
