http://www.sportscollectorsdaily.com...card-industry/
Some great points in the article. Good read.
Ideas to persuade players to sign quicker??
A) Send cards back on time for Bonus $$
B) Send cards back late, lose half your $$
C) Identify the slow people and pass on them next time.
More ideas??

I think if the companies were more forthcoming about the issues behind it, it would piss less people off.
After that, I would just start passing on the players who are repeat offenders. I don't think there's any real financial impact to be made. Guys making league minimum are making $525k/yr, do you really think that the "threat" of even a couple grand (I don't know what they pay these guys to sign...) is going to push them to get those autographs in? Me neither.
Quite frankly, these guys are either going to do it or they're not. Maybe there's other possibilities like card companies setting poorly timed deadlines or something... but my odds are on some of the players just not caring much.

they arent going to be able to offer some sort of incentive that a pro player will actually care about to get cards back sooner.
also if they avoid players that delay signing and dont ask them in the future to sign wouldnt that be an incentive more not to sign?
everyone hates redemptions and hates waiting on them and delayed releases. They go hand in hand and better some years and worse in others. I wish there were more products out right now but it is helping my pc by buying single cards when i would have been buying boxes

Use road trips and the off-season down-time to get the cards signed. Travel to the player themselves to get this done. Stop sending the players cards in the hope that they will get them signed and returned in time.
As a card company, be proactive as it's your own card company not the players, and ultimately the card companies responsibility to the consumer.
2 of the Card companies today, are just poor business people.

Good read, thanks for posting.
Card companies should be able to release players names that have a history of taking to long to sign.. this may affect opinions of these players which would or at least should have a negative impact on player reputation. This may cause some (although probably very little) motivation to sign cards faster.
Also, we understand to a certain extent if products are delayed because players didn't sign cards in time, however, card companies still need to communicate this better to consumers.

This will do nothing. UD and Panini are making millions off the consumers, it's their responsibility to get the cards signed once they have told consumers that they are available. If the player is slow, then get a company person out and get it handled.
Players have nothing to do with UD and Panini being lazy and not proactive.

Centrehice, I agree with you that it's UD and panini's responsibility but why only try to fix this with one plan, why not do as much as possible to prevent these issues going forward? Also, I am not sure how expensive it would be for road-trips to send rep's to every player to sign their cards. I think this would clearly be the best solution but also one of the most expensive methods

Because UD and Panini obviously don't give a damn. Why are they taking over 2 years to fulfill requests, then only end up dumbing-down and giving lesser cards.
They need a Class-Action Lawsuit against them, and that is the only way they are going to stop with the nonsense.

there is not going to be an answer for this...people with either A) Complain about not enough stars in the product, or about too many redemptions, or B) Too many delays to make sure they get the stars in and that there are fewer redemptions.
As long as this is a business its going to remain this way. If threatened with a law-suit they will simply drop all players that take a while to sign, which may include more than you realize. And this hobby will remain a BUSINESS so long as people on the open market try to make a buck off of it. I'm certainly not knocking people selling cards (heck I just sold a Skinner for over $300), but there are a ton of people that bust cases simply for finding value in the case. Its moving away from being a hobby on BOTH ends, both the makers of the cards, as well as the "collectors" of the cards. I also have no problem with people that do buy cases simply for value. If I could afford a case of the cup I would in a heart beat, but I just hate realizing that the hobby is becoming a business and people complain about the card makers when it is a two-way street. They are also trying to find a middle ground between delaying, obtaining stars, and limiting redemptions.....man....give em a break lol
to quote a great songwriter, "the times they are a-changin", this is not the same hobby it was 30 years ago, it is a business now...like it or notPlease check my inventory before my photobucket!!! It's more up to date!!!

I understand why the delays are happening and I like autographed cards in the new products so I don't mind waiting if it means less redemptions. However, what does bother me is why can't the card companies make a more realistic estimate of the release date in the first place, like say they have a product they think will be ready in January, why not state that the release date is February 25th, so that when it does come out in late March or April it isn't as far off the original release date. It would also be good if there were mid to low end products like Pinnacle or Donruss with sticker autos that Panini could release during the delays while we are waiting for the higher end sets with the hard-signed autos to be ready to release. I know that some people only collect one end or the other, but I collect everything, so i wouldn't mind a few lower end set to fill the vois while we are waiting for the other new releases.
