I still think the Oilers should trade it. They have enough top scoring young forwards. They need a D man. Trade down with Columbus and get another pick or player/prospect from them.

Trade it to the Leafs for some kind of package that has Schenn and the fifth in it so I can keep my Schenn PC.

Then we can watch as Brian Burke tries to turn it into a trade for Everything and the Kitchen sink from a team and then draft some schlub from the US Collage Hockey Scene in a self described pick of genius and oversight by 29 other GMs, who would not even go Fifth if the Leafs had kept that pick. or in the 7th round when everybody with a clue has some say.

I can see how some fans of the NHL can be sour after the Oilers getting the 1st overall pick again, but i think most of you are forgetting the Oilers didn't win the draft last year, the Devils did, so the NHL is in no way "Fixing" the draft. As an Oilers fan, am I'm happy that the oil will get another 1st overall selection? Hell Yeah. They'll take Yakupov if they keep the pick, which most likely will happen, unless an outstanding deal pops up that they couldn't refuse, like Weber and Lindback. The Oilers future is bright, especially with the play of Eberle, Nuge and Hall. Hopefully Yakupov can make the jump to the NHL like RNH. Plus the Oilers have a bunch of other solid prospects who have great potential, Paajarvi, Klefbomb, Maricin, Hartakainen, Fedun, and Bunz. I don't think the Oil with make the Playoffs next year, but in 2 years lookout, they will make a huge push for the cup. And if anyone suggests that the Oilers will have to trade Eberle or Hall, once they bring in Yakupov, I'm sorry, but that's completely stupid, the Oil want to take steps forward not backward, and plus all the great teams have those 1-2 punches, Crosby, and Malkin, or Kane and Sharp. Once the time comes to make a deal for a defencemen, then ya, deal away some prospects, but that doesn't include the young core of the team. Just my opinion

    Well said :)

Never say never, but trading the pick would almost certainly be foolish.

With Yakupov they will get elite talent. If they did something like trade it to the Leafs for the 5th, Schenn, and even something else..... they'd be trading elite talent for mediocre talent, which is not a good idea.

If names like Pietrangelo, Doughtly, Karlsson, Myers, etc are offered to them in a trade - then I would agree it's something they should pursue. That's not going to happen though. No way teams give up on Stud dmen that are under the age of 25.

Even to trade down to #2 - I think anything less than Jack Johnson + the #2 from Columbus would be a horrible deal.... and that's too much for the Jackets to give up.

Well, the Oilers have plenty of offensive talent, but their blueline and goaltending needs some badly needed improvements.

All offense and no defense is like a template for what a southeast division team is normally, and Edmonton is currently fitting the model except for being on the other side of the continent. I can say that there is no Bulin Wall...
