What's to stop teams from tanking to get into the bottom five for a shot at the #1 pick? In the end, it's all the same. All the lottery does is keep teams that need help the most from getting it. Just look at the NBA lottery, too, for example. The year the Chicago Bulls selected Derrick Rose with the first pick, there were eight teams worse than them. The Draft Lottery does very little to benefit the worst team league.

That's possibly the stupidest thing I've heard in a long, long, long time. Jackets would not give up Nash to move up ONE spot unless Eberle, RNH, or Hall are involved somehow. Even that probably wouldn't be enough.
Jackets wouldn't even come close to doing it even if they didn't have to give up the #2. This draft class is weak, and even Nail isn't seen as a surefire franchise player.

It's funny, because there ARE conspiracy theorists out there(even I joked that it was rigged and I'm an Oilers fan).
You live in Ohio so you must have heard all that excitement when the Cavaliers got the 1st AND 4th picks last year. They didn't even win the lottery with their own draft pick, it was the Clippers pick. All the conspiracy theorists were out in full flight saying that the NBA draft was rigged for the Cavs because they lost Lebron. If there are any Blue Jackets fans who are also Cavs fans, they know the feeling on both sides, and probably shouldn't complain. (I'm not accusing you of complaining about it, I don't even know if you're a Cavs fan

this will be good. if the pick doesn't get traded, Oilers will get Yakupov and wont go after any defense or goaltending, will finish bottom 5 again next year and have a chance at a 4th in a row! lol, ik i'd be furious if my Rangers were in the Blue Jackets spot right now

My understanding is that all those GMs watched the ping pong balls of air. Showing who wins the draft doesn't make for good TV..... they a few minutes out of showing who the top five picks are.
Rigged? Not a chance. (Yes, I'm an Oilers fan.... so I'm hardly in a position to be upset today, but it is NOT rigged).
Columbus did get the short end of the stick today, for sure. I don't disagree with the notion that a lottery isn't really necessary - but is has been in place since 1995. This is not something new, and the Jackets are not the first team to get burned by it.
As for the Oilers - yes, they're going to get yet another top-end forward, but if they can't fix the problems elsewhere on the team, there's going to be another GM & Head Coach looking for new jobs really soon.
