$200-$300 for 1 box isn't a huge risk? lol can I get on your payroll...
Overall I agree with what everyone is saying and pointing out... however I don't think the average Wrestling fan would go for that... Sure higher end would be nice, following in the footsteps of UFC with Topps Finest, but no Topps Finest product should run that much. A lot of wrestling collectors I know buy the merchandise, collect various autographs, buy Pay Per Views and attend live events but I'm not sure they'd be willing to spend that kind of money on a box... The hits could be awesome, but it doesn't justify a release in a companies perspective. I see old men still collecting baseball cards (no disrespect to the age thing), Football,Basketball,Hockey are also widely collected and have been in mainstream markets for longer too... Wrestling Card collecting is still somewhat in its infancy for the most part on a widespread collectable scene.Unless of course you take into consideration the WCW Impel sets or the 1990 Classic WFF (blue borders) which when I was 8-10 years old was cool but looking back weren't really worth the trees they killed to make them IMO. While the vast majority of people can link pro wrestling to some aspect of their childhood, it doesn't translate into the card market...
In any sport the "hits" keep coming...While set print runs are lower now, the market is becoming flooded with the "hits" and for most collectors in ANY sport the $200-$300 range for a box cost, usually doesn't justify the end result in 5-6 Event/Game Used and 2-3 autos that maybe book around $10-15 bucks each....Sure ya might get lucky but for the most part ya got about as much of a chance of that happening as becoming the next Hulk Hogan or Ric Flair.
What I wouldn't mind seeing is other companies coming into the mix... UFC has Topps.... WWE has Topps... What about maybe Panini (even though I hate the company with a passion) or UD starting to put their stake in things.. I realize there are partnerships and agreements between card companies and licensing the products but honestly I'd rather see that initially than a super high end product.
Just my opinion and you know what people say about opinions...
