Penny Sleeve Frustration
Does anyone else have this problem? Penny sleeves are a non negotiable when it comes to protecting your cardboard. I put everything in them from base up unless they are in a one touch. But I have had this problem for ever: 90% of the time a corner of the card gets caught on the edge of the sleeve and can slightly damage a corner. Does anyone else have this problem or do I just have the hand dexterity of an elephant?

I've done it before. File it under #firstworldcollectingproblems

You're not the only one. I hate putting thicker cards into penny sleeves, especially if they are too small for the "thick" sleeves, and leave little room in the regular sleeves. A couple of times I've slightly turned up a corner. That's probably a reason why I use one-touches more often than others. Harder to screw those up.

happens to me too...what i try to do is rub the opening with my finger and open it in the middle, then add the corner in the middle, and slide it over...helps, but its not fool proof lol

Happens to collectors all the time. It's all about experience, though. Just be careful when putting the cards in sleeves, even if they're "just" base cards.
Practice makes perfect!

I used to take a swiss army knife down one seam of the penny sleeve a few millimetres to better handle the card when angling it into the sleeve. That would do the trick. Time consuming - you would think the manufacturers would have thought of that as part of their process though...

True however even after thousands of times it still happens. I think a design change is needed. It is very frustrating to pull a hot yg in flawless condition think man I gotta protect this baby and get it graded, try to put it in a sleeve and pull up a corner.

I understand what you mean. Maybe you could use one-touch cases instead for the high-end stuff. How do you store your PC items - toploaders, pocket pages or something else?

You can just break the top of them by holding 1 side, putting your finger doing in maybe 1/2 inch, and quickly sliding it out the other side, it will break it down 1/4 to 1/2 inch, and makes it much easier to put the cards in without damage to the corners.

I store my PC items first in a sleeve, then in a top-loader, then in a sealed team bag. Or in a one touch sealed in a graded slab bag. I think I am just going to have to use one-touches more often even though they are more expensive and take up more space.
I will also have to start breaking the side of the sleeve as you guys have suggested. That may work better.
Sometimes I will pick up a bag of sleeves that have one side of the plastic about 1/8-1/4" higher than the other and I find those work better than ones cut flush at the top. If they were all like that it would make it easier.
