People hit it right on.
ITG, UD, and Panini still make cards of retired players. However, it usually is harder to find. For example, I am a Jagr PC guy, so If jagr retires, I would still collect him, but since it would be a bit harder, he might become a minor PC of mine.

I have just continued buying more cards and other memorabilia. I am thankful that ITG has made it possible to pull an Arturs Irbe card from a pack again. It was many years since I last got to do that and now there are a lot of Irbe cards out that I have to track down. I just wish they didn't cost so much money. There are a lot of die hard Irbe fans out there to keep his cards coming... After Irbe retired, I was able to buy a game used jersey that was the last home jersey he wore in the NHL and added a lot of cards that I've been wanting for a long time. Thanks to those on here that have helped me out.

Keep collecting what I can find, but my wallet is looking forward to that day. I'll probably start up some other player PC or do some sets.

Depending on the player, I would continue picking stuff up as its produced, and probably start up other PC's to fill the void.

I started to collect my current PC-1 Tom Barrasso in 1996 and when he retired at 2003 and I gave up the hobby at same year (not because of Barrasso's retirement, only just of that I was tired of the hobby) and comebacked at 2008 when I saw that Barrasso got a flood of new cards during my retirement (thanks ITG and for now Panini!)
During 10-11 season there was recordbreasking many Barrasso cards produced (143!!! actually some more) compared with the former record holder for the 98-99 season with 83 SCF-listed cards....!
Quite unbelievable for a "no superstar goalie" which retired in 2003 to appear on 143 cards in 10-11 season!
I'll continue to collect Barrasso so long, also even after Hedberg retires (much likely if NJD wins the cup this year or plays one more final season for Leksand in sweden before the retirement)
If I got tired of Barrasso so I have Henrik Lundqvist, Cam Ward and more to choose so it's no problem.Last edited by Frendo; 05-28-2012 at 06:49 AM.

Been collecting for more then 45 years and mainly you find other new player and keep collecting older ones. To me I am first a team collector, putting the focus on certain player. The exception is Patrick Roy were I stick to 1996 and before since they do make way to many cards of him so I keep the one I pull but only trade or buy 1996 and prior.
If a player is trade to a other team, then I keep collecting the one I need with habs jersey only. In the end I am a team collector but with focus on certain player, mainly the greatest habs goaltender.

Amen! Unfortunately I have a long time to go for that, and the chances Kessel will be on the Leafs until he retires is well....unlikely (with senior Burke in power)
Once he leaves the Leafs, it will be time for a PC change, which is fine with me keeps it interesting :) lol

Keep on keepin' on, although with Backlund and Cammalleri, it'll be at least a decade before this happens.

The only bad thing about being a good retired NHLer when it comes to cards is this:
Legend - #/2999
Legend - #/999
Don't bother, let them live out their golden years. OPC. Artifacts, SPA and many others are simply piling up the cards.
