4 years 30 mil. yeah sorry mr Doan. 3.5 mil cap hit would be pushing it. 4 tops and thats if you found a team with room to spare. but 7 is a joke. score 80+ points for 2 years then come asking for that. take the 3-4 mil and go play for a cup, go back to winny or stay in the desert

Apparently, Buffalo was the one that offered him that deal (and I thought this issue was dead):

I gotta wonder what Darcie Regier is thinking? Doan might be an okay player, but he's now a 35+ player, which means almost no cap relief if he cannot play for any reason.

Apparently Doan wants to pare it down to a two-year deal, probably meaning he does not want to move at all from Arizona.

Doan at his age is 3.2 per. If the Thumber-Pylon Mark Stuart can get that kind o dough, then anybody can.

Even with that kind of money waved in front of him, I think he won't leave Arizona anyway.

As a Sabres fan, I can't say I totally hate it. It's way too much money for him, and it's not even close. However, this team has always gone for the sensible contract approach and cheaped out a lot along the way. They have a couple higher paid contracts, but only Vanek is above 7m and the Oilers technically dished that out and was accepted because they lost Drury and Briere that same off season. I just want them to try something new, even if it isn't smart. I'm not saying I want them to make signings like this with reckless abandon, but Doan has always been a heart and soul guy, can play in most situations still and is a solid all around player. There are a lot of young kids on the Sabres who I would love to have learn from Doan for a few years as well. Plus he's still a 50-60 point player so it's not like he's totally useless.

It's an absurd contract to be sure, but I can't say I would hate it if it happened.
