ima bout 95% sure this card came out of 05 fleer national past time. they bought a ton of game used and autos from 00-04 and hand numbered them and reinserted them into packs of national pastime as buybacks g/u and autos. almost all of them are unpriced. the only problem is that its hard to tell which are real and which are fake. there is no difference from the regular cards and the ones that were bought by fleer and hand numbered. id say stay away from that card....you can find plenty of other spahn autos that are perfectley legit in every way.

According to Beckett, there are a number SPs in the set, but they also state that they are NOT serial numbered, so that's Strike 1 against the listing. When I looked for the Warren Spahn card in the price guide it's not even a SP, plus of the SPs in the set the lowest print run is only like 150, none as low as the one in the listing, so that's Strike 2. And I agree that having the numbering in a different color is bad, Strike 3.
DON'T BID!

You guys are the best! The number may or not be legit but its not worth the hassle if I ever decide to resell so I will take a pass and focus on another Spahn auto auction.
I just posted a new topic about a Mantle 1951 Bowman GAI 4 I've been offered and could really use your expert feedback there.

Here is the response I got from him about the handwritten serial #:
"I pulled the card from a pack that I purchased about 3 weeks ago. It is strange the card is hand numbered in a different color. I can say 2 things, look at my feedback and you can see I am a straight shooter, and I would have to be a moron to number a card in a different color.
You can research other auctions but you will not see another Spahn like this, which will also attest to the rarity of the card.
Thanks for the good question."
I dunno man....I'd still be alittle worried.

I wouldn`t pay more than $15.00 total for it. You can take a chance for that amount. I`ve purchased Fajitas from Baha Fresh that cost more than $15 and they were certainly a bad decision for that amount. I had nothing to show for the money I spent except soiled underoos.
The auto looks legit. But then again I`m not a professional on autos.

I think jaybiddyforreal has got it right. I've seen a lot of other fleer buyback cards like this and it's the stupidest thing Fleer could've done. They've released buyback cards that are no different from the original except for some sharpie numbering. It's not worth it's supposed rarity because it adds nothing to the card.

I think it's probably a buy back as previously stated. I don't understand how hard it would be for the card companies to satmp the card as a buy back to let everyone know what it is.

Jaybiddy is correct... The card was a buyback and inserted in the 05 National Pastime Set... All buy backs from National Pastime were numbered in blue, and the two Spahn's are numbered /6, and /1... No BV for both.

If this is true then the card should be the same price as the other 2001 Greats Autographs. Just because the ywere bought back and re inserted in packs and hand #'d, why should that make a value of a card go up ? It's not like he only signed that many for this set.

I would agree with Rick there... The BV of the 01 GOTG card is $30/60... I mean, maybe it will go for more since it is "re-numbered," but without the card having anything actually printed on it stating that it is from National Pastime, it will be looked upon as a possible fake, especially with Fleer being out of business.
I would bid no more than $15, but that's just me.
