The One Chance I'll Never Get Again
So, there are currently two Satan 1/1s on ebay.
I currently have 0.
I also have no money to get one, as I've been putting it all towards a car and college.
I know those things are more important, but aaaa...not gonna forgive myself for missing this chance. xD
Ever have that happen to you? Is it still happening?

Just about every single day, mister. I'm a middle-aged guy with a decent job and decent income and I see the things on eBay that I just can't afford, and it NEVER gets any easier to deal with.............for the most part we're all in the same boat, so don't feel like you're the only one. That's why they make Score AND The Cup AND everything in between..........

Haha....I feel your pain...
I was extremely bored ay 2011 when Barrasso/Hedberg didn't got any neww cards foir 3-4 months I think so I decided to start collect Lundqvist and Ward.
Oh gosh I was crazy during the 2-3 first weeks and guess what did happened later?
Yes of course ebay was suddenly filled by 1/1 and rare Barrasso/Hedberg cards (especially Barrasso) and of course I was crazy broke then, I'll never forgive me..EVER!
Those cards which I missed during that time still haunts me even today especially when almost all ended up at a very low price....and most of those non 1/1's did never surfaced at ebay again...silly me!

I only found 1 Satan 1/1, a show stamped one. Is that one that you were talking about?

I made the decision a long time ago never to chase a 1/1 and never worry about having one. There's almost always someone willing to pay more than I am. If one comes along and happens to be priced reasonably and I happen to win it, it'll be a great day but I won't fret at all if/when I am outbid.
Now, once we get to there being 6 or 10 of something, I still respond to the urge to get more than one of them; but that's almost as self-destructive and I try to limit that to just a few favorite pieces.

Let's say you have every 3rd line player's 1/1 Plates. One day when you are 65 and digging through your closet, you find them again.
You get excited, but then realize that you aren't going to live forever, your kids don't want the cards, and you don't know a single sole in the World who knows who Miroslav Satan is but you. What then?
Might as well get some coffee money and hope that somebody out there will give you $12.00 for each of them.
Keep saving for College and your future, that is the astute move. You are doing it RIGHT.Last edited by centrehice; 05-21-2013 at 12:08 PM.

I don't plan on changing where the money is going, just wanted to see if anyone could relate.

I think we all do. And it's that stuff that's JUST out of reach that hurts. Saw a Maurice Richard RC PSA 9, I think. Fun to watch, but no possible way I'd buy it, so no biggie. But if I find myself flat broke one week, and a nice $20 PC item comes up and I have to let it go, man that stings!

Believe it or not, despite closing in on the century mark of Sedin 1/1's, I've passed on quite a few as well - there are other priorities in life so I pick up what makes sense in my budget, and sometimes just have to let other 1/1's go. They do have a way of resurfacing more often than you think though...
I passed on the Daniel Sedin silver ensigns autographed shield from the innaugral Dominion (more than once I believe), only to later pick up both the Henrik single shield plus the dual Sedin shield, and was kicking myself for missing the chance to put together the trifecta - eventually spotted it on photobucket but the collector said he was a hardcore Daniel Sedin fan and wasn't going to move it, but a few months later he put it on ebay and I pounced.
The only Sedin Property Of's from The Cup I believe also changed hands multiple times, no way I could afford those when they first came out, but they just came up on ebay last week, and should be in the mail right now :)
I'm sure there are some cards I've passed on that I'll never see again, but looking back I'm glad I stuck to my budget in the vast majority of cases. That feeling of going beyond your means when scooping up a card is much worse than the pain of seeing a nice card slip away IMO - it's hard to enjoy that card even if you do get it, if every time you look at it you just think about how you overstretched, rather than enjoying the card for the beauty it is.

I think it's happened to almost everyone at one point or another. Theres like half a dozen Saku 1/1's on eBay right now, but they're all priced too high for me. My advice is take some of your "allocated hobby money" (if that's what you do), and put a small amount of it away. Just keep letting it add up, maybe just pass on one or two cards a month, and after a while you have the funds set aside to go for it when one of those cards show up.
