    Question would removing the gloss off a card be considered damaging the card?

    Certain brands are much tougher than others. I actually tossed all of my 2001 Topps (green border with glossy finish), way too many of those had the autographs evaporate, smear, or bubble up.

    I usually go with cards like Allen and Ginter, which are flat finish, require no prepping, and are really nice for autographs since the pictures are light colored and the borders are white.

    Yeah I mainly stick to low end non glossy cards. I hate prepping and the risk of damaging a card or the auto not even coming out right even after prepping.

    i have also noticed that a silver metallica sharpie will adheer to the gloss better then a regular sharpie if it hasn't been prepped
