Vaccines-What do you think?
Hey all,
I typically stay away from the P&R forum, but I figured for this topic I wanted your opinions. I'm a Christian, first and foremost (that's what makes this a religion thread). I got vaccinated as a child and am forever grateful for it. However, a lot of other Christians believe vaccines are wrong. What do you think of this? I'll give my reasons as to why I think those who are "anti-vaccines" are wrong after a few posts, but I wanted to know what you guys think of Christians who are "anti-vaccines." Thanks, and have a great night!
P.S. I don't want this to turn into an anti-Christianity thread, so for those who believe differently than I do, please keep it civil. I'm not making this thread to try and evangelize. I just want opinions.

I have never considered it to be an issue divided by religion. If it is, I would guess it's just the anti-science crowd. Vaccines have proven their effectiveness over decades. I think anyone that is against them is uninformed.

I got my required vaccines as a child but I haven't had a shot in 20 years or so, I'm a little biased though because I have a fear of needles and I get the heeby jeebies just going to a doctors office.

I wasn't aware of the Christian agenda against vaccines...I thought it was people who have autistic children. We all know they would rather have a dead child than an autistic child...

I got all my vaccinations and the majority of them made me sick, though only one time I would classify as somewhat serious and it's not like I was hospitalized. I really didn't like them and if my child comes to me complaining about the same thing I'm going to look into alternatives and other methods, if possible.
But on a religious level? That just doesn't compute with me outside of faith healers and the Amish.

Think about it.
The deeply fundamentalist Christians in this country literally believe that their god can fix any problem that arises, and modern medicine is no match for said god.
And unfortunately their kids pay the consequences.
If people don't believe me that these types of individuals exists in America, just ask these folks:

As for me, I rely on real life logic to fix the problems that arise in my life.
If a scientifically proved vaccine can help me....you're damn sure I'm going to take it.

From what I heard the side effects from certian vaccines cause more problems that what you are actually getting vaccinated from. As for me I personally try to avoid all drugs weather legal or not as much as humanly possible. However if it was something that I had to get for my own personal survival then I would do what I have to do.
Drug and smoke free trading.

so I am guessing no one has heard of all the vaccines found contaminated?

also Christians and theodicy come in too many flavors to think they are all the same, and this can be said about many religions.
I would suggest anyone of the Abrahamic religions, who thinks God is involved with your destiny and will provide divine intervention, should study the book of Job.

well, it isn't necessarily an agenda. there aren't people, to my knowledge, picketing outside a doc's office because people are getting vaccinated. it's more Christians who won't get them for their children because they believe they are wrong. JustAlex gave a good point in that some Christians pray to God that their children will be healed. he and I have a different view on it, clearly, but he raises a good point in that sometimes it doesn't work.
i'm going to give my argument toward anti-vaccine Christians from a Christian worldview, so if the following doesn't make sense, try to think from a Christian viewpoint just for a second so it's clear.
being a Christian, I believe God created the world and everything in it, including human beings. He gave us knowledge. we use that knowledge to create vaccines to prevent serious illnesses. sometimes it doesn't work (i.e. chicken pox), but based on my experience a majority of the time it does. now, if we aren't to use vaccines, why on earth would God give us the knowledge to create them and use them?
that's just my thought on it. again, it's coming from a Christian worldview. i know a lot of people in the forum don't believe the same as I do.
Wick and FlyersFan raise good points about not getting them. if you got sick or don't like the doc, i honestly have no problem with you not getting your kids vaccinated. it's your choice, not mine.

I agree...if it is scientifically proven. If you can point me to a double-blind study of the current U.S. Immunization Schedule, I would love to see it. Until then, I will not simply accept that it is "scientifically" safe.
