The last time I lived in Canada it was somewhere in the ballpark of $150.00 CAD to register a political party. You did have to have a telephone that worked however.

...which, as I'm sure GroundSupport knows, is still very difficult to achieve here...

That statement infuriates me.. its the most arrogant ideal republicans have.. and are completely oblivious to their own bigotry against the poor...
if the minimum wage had increased with inflation.. it would be over $20 today.. did you know that? Why don't you try living on $200-300 a week.. forget a family.. just by yourself. $200-300 a week is what an average 30-40 hour worker gets in a low end job (Mcdonalds, grocery store, clothing store, etc etc)
Just to give you an idea...
Average housing for a single individual... 500-1500 a month
Average food cost... 200+ a month
Average electric/water bills...100+ a month
Average tv/phone/internet bill... 150+ a month
So now lets say you are making the larger end.. 300 a week... yet you have $1500-3000 in bills each month (conservatively). How is that possible to live? CEO's have tried to do it "just to prove they can"... and none have succeeded
The arrogance of the right drives me batty. Keep telling yourself its the poor persons fault for being poor... pray to your god that it never happens to you.
Now republicans tell people who work their butt off for 30-40 years that they don't deserve a pension anymore. And the people who have already earned theirs? "Sorry, the companies bottom line is more important now"....
The rich have increased their wealth more than they have ever in history over the last 50 years.. and republicans love it. Then they tell SS recipients they need to cut their benifits.. medicare is too generous.. GI bills aren't deserved... we need to cut more entitlements... etc etc
THE RICH OF THIS COUNTRY HAVE ROBBED US BLIND AND THE REPUBLICAN PARTY IS THEIR PROXY FOR IT !!!!Last edited by Imac7065; 10-19-2013 at 11:36 AM.

I have to say, this apparent assumption that if you're poor you obviously don't work hard enough is infuriating every time I read it. The idea that the people hoarding their money are the "hard workers"and everyone else is lazy makes no sense.

the equivalent argument to "people are poor because they choose to be" is that every rich person on earth is only rich because they are trust fund babies and didn't earn a dime of their own wealth. Ironically it's a lot closer to reality than the poor argument. I would say less than 5% of the wealthiest 1% were self made.
I thought the idea of making rich people richer is that they would "trickle down" their prosperity in the form of jobs, charity, and the like? riiiiiiiiight

but if the poor does not want to work and continues getting government help, most will never work, thus will not work their way up the financial ladder.
despite what some may think, the rich is not living off the back or nor stealing from the poor.
we need more jobs and more people more and more people off government help.
look at things in the real world, look at the stories of fraud, work with metro housing, work in community centers, you will see many who could work who choose not to and are stealing the help from those who do need it.
if you think people aren't lazy, if you think all the people on welfare have no choice, if you think you can't work your way up, then I am guessing you are living removed from the poor.
and never did I state all the poor are like this, that is you assumptions, whcih we all know what it means when you assume.

How about instead of citing the maybe 3-5% of fraud cases in a program as reason to cut off its head... we try to curb the fraud?
If we found that 5 cops were corrupt.. should we end the police program? If a fire squad failed to extinguish a fire.. should the entire fire department be closed?
I'm sick and tired of the dogma of the right. Stop hiding behind BS.. you hate poor people because you think you are better than them. It boils down to that
