Question: Anyone understand 'Monumental Emblems' from UD Oilers Collection?
So I'm trying to figure this set out. When the product previews first came out, I did not think I would chase these ones... seemed like it would be impossible... but I'd go after the Ranford stuff (obviously).
I read that there are 24 different "puzzle pieces" (if you will) with the patches, and they would form an Oilers logo. My understanding was that there were 24 for each player.
Then I realized that there were 24 players on the checklist, so it occured to me that (in theory) what should happen is that each player is one piece of the puzzle. If that were the case, going for a whole run of 24 players seems like something I'd want to do :) This would make sense - since there is no numbering on the card to indicate what patch it is (i.e. if there are 24 different cards for each player - there is no way to tell them apart other than looking at the patch. That's easy for some patches, less clear for others)
But looking at what has shown up on eBay - I'm confused.
I'll use this Ranford as my first example:

I pulled an identical card. Same patch.
But if you look at these two (both Gretzky) they're clearly not the same patch:

So does anyone know, for sure, how these things are supposed to work? Can I build an entire logo with just one player???

After doing some more reading.... I think I may have answered my own quesiton:
There are 24 different peieces per player (all are evenly produced) so you can form an entire logo with one player.
There are also autographed versions - and there is only 1 piece per player.... so I assume the combination of these, it will form an entire logo.
This is going to be a fun one to build, lol.

That would be killer Sean if you could nab all the Ranford's, and build the logo. Another cool aspect to it is if you could get a corresponding logo built with all 24 players in it. The chances of building that would be extremely tough though I think.

Yeah.
I mean - with Ranford specifically, I've seen two of them (so far). Mine, and the one just like it on eBay. UD claims they're all produced in the same ratio though - so maybe not impossible?
To do an entire logo with one each of the 24 players.... I've convinced myself I'm going to do it. I'm guessing I'll get about half way there before I have to start being chosey.... but if I go with less premium patches on the bigger name guys, it may not be so bad?
Championship Banners, which are the best looking cards in the release, is what's going to kill me though. Some of them are limited to 10 & 25. None are more than 99.

So are you saying that the Monumental Emblems are just limited to a total of 24 / player?

No, for sure no. Many more than 24 per player.
Monumental Emblems fall 1 every 18 packs.
The math isn't easy to do on this set- becuase there isn't something like Exclusives /100 to go with, and make an easy guess at a total print run - but if these fall 1:18, assuming that none are short printed (vs the other ones) there is probably 100s for each player. Maybe 240 total cards for each of the 24 players in the set? (That would be enough to have used 10 logos for each player). It seems like a good guess.... though maybe that's high? Thinking about it, half that would seem reasonable. Between 120 and 240 of those cards for each of the 24 players in the set?
Anyway - what I meant in my last post.... think of those pieces of logo as a puzzle. There are 24 different pieces in that puzzle, and you can complete the puzzle with any individual player. All pieces were produced in the same quantity, so it's not like the oil drop is more limited than a boring looking edge piece.
For the autographed versions - each player only represents one puzzle piece.
