Maybe UD will try something new? I wouldn't be opposed to it. I know there are a lot of good sets they could bring back, but in the first year of a multi-year contract it can't hurts to try and be creative.

Less competition means the consumer gets screwed. Plain and simple. It's the same in any industry. Although, even though ITG didn't get their licence, Panini throwing in the towel must be a decent consolation for Dr. Price. I know I'll be chasing their stuff even more than before.

I think you misunderstand, Panini didn't throw in the towel...they had the towel ripped from their hands!

I wonder if this will make 2013 Prizm even more special?

Well with no (or very little ) competition, with an exclusive market you can pretty well be ready to pay more for those Upper Deck cards.
Hearing this news has already made my plans for the collecting year. I'm only going to get BTP if ITG makes it this year, and Artifacts from Upper Deck. This was the first time I've bought them, really liked the cards and inserts/jerseys. Not so much Autofacts though. Plus I'm still trying to put the 1-100 base set together.

I'm done! After 25 years, I'm officially calling it quits.. Not that I was a fan of Panini over UD, I'm just not a fan of monopoly..

Sounds the same situation every 5 years! I don't think the hobby was healthy in the last 5 years comparatively to the decade before.

As much as I can' shed any tears for Panini since they may have had a big part in ITG not being invited to the Industry Summit, I don't think an exclusive is good for collectors.
The NHLPA extracted more money from UD and you can bet they will pass those costs on to the collectors.
UD, Panini and ITG with six releases each would have been my dream but that was not to be.
We will keep making innovative products like StickWork and compete for your hobby dollars as best we can.
