The secondary market is going to suffer for those that like reasonably lower priced base and parallels if Panini does not produce any cards. Sorry, but the yearly UD series 1 and 2 cards in terms of base design and Young Guns offer NOTHING. The Canvas parallels are a bit better than the base, but UD Series 1 and 2 are about the ugliest cards on the planet in my 50 plus years of collecting.
Does anyone else think that there now might be a run on Panini Older Boxes still in the pipeline? Or do you folks think that previous and existing stocks of all Panini products will simply lose more of their value?Last edited by centrehice; 02-27-2014 at 07:06 PM.

So you think the NHLPA signed this deal for less money.....not a chance. More money than the previous 2 combined as well as the reduced cost of only having to deal with one company.

Wow...took a long time to read all the previous posts! :)
At first I was thinking that I was disappointed that UD got an exclusive deal as I have been purchasing far more Panini products the past 4 years than UD. With Prizm I was hoping cards would be getting away from cardboard and moving towards the shiny thicker cards that are in Prizm.
But then I thought...with UD having an exclusive, maybe they will bring back the set that got me back into card collecting quite a few years ago...the set I enjoyed collecting with my kids more than any other set.
I hope UD brings back Mcdonald's cards!

I enjoyed products from both companies, but I have to say that upper deck provided more bang for the buck...I cant believe how the rcs in prizm, select and other Panini releases are worth next to nothing....yet pull a young gun out of a 3 dollar pack and you have something....

that sucks! The hobby/industry need competition. Back to good old boring UD thats in charge of everything. I will pick up more ITG cards after this.

Count your Panini cards going for 50 cents on the dollar. They have a lot of product to dump in the next 3 months. How many sticker signatures can they fit on 1 card???

I agree with one of the earlier posts that having Panini around made Upper Deck better. However, I have not been impressed with Panini for the last year or so, so I am not really disappointed that they are gone. The big concern now is how many products Upper Deck will be allowed to make and how that will impact the market. As someone else mentioned, with MVP back, there are surely going to be more than 11 Upper Deck releases. I hope they remember the things they have been doing well and try to limit the release of unnecessary and unimaginative products so that we the collectors will enjoy this Upper Deck exclusive period. But chances are with the exclusive license we will see too many products released every year and products none of us have an interest in as well.

My question is:
As an ON CARD auto collector. What can I do without digging 400$ in my pocket for 10 cards?
Stop collecting hockey cards?
Buy old cards on the secondary market?
Panini play a fun game to ask a lot of money when releasing to go down one or 2 months later… They lost. Beautiful cards but Panini play the game to put too much poor rookies in their products. They own what happen now. They have to pay and they didn't cause they underrated the hockey market.
UD cards are boring even the cup. But, they are alone without something like Chrome or Prizm…

TOPPS: They don't care about hockey.
