He is a smart man, good coach and has great hockey sense, and is demanding. Unfortunately, his system is not working for this Leafs team, on pace for a league record shots against. Going into Tuesdays game, the Leafs and Blues had identical save pct of .916...however Toronto has given up 800 more shots. Looking at the Leafs roster, that team should be much better then those stats, no way should this team be one of the worst defensively all time. If it wasn't for the play of Bernier and until recently, Reimer, this team would have been sunk long ago. They can score with some of the top teams, but give up way too many goals. People are quick to jump on Phaneuf and Gunnarsson, however, both are team leaders in +\- and good defenceman. The bottom 3 of 4 are young, and have potential in Rielly and Gardiner, Franson is good, however, prone to dumbness and Gleason is the teams best defensive d man. Still, not a defensive unit that should be on Pace for a league record in shots against. Which makes me believe Carlyle system is flawed, or at the very least, not a good system for this particular group. He is a Stanley cup winning coach, so his system has worked in the past. I just believe this young group needs a different style coach, Randy's system maybe successful elsewhere, it's just not working for this team.

He maybe smart etc etc, but in todays game, none of that matter's without Excellent people/motivation skills.
Kadir has been thrown under the bus countless times, in public and than he came into training camp in excellent condition and scored a Hat trick in the 1st period. Carlyle's response to the media about Kadri's performance, a bland, "yeah but about about the 2nd and 3rd period" Yikes, talk about a glass half empty kinda guy, we all know people like this and it grows old Real Fast. No one wants to be around people like that, let alone skate through a wall for them...He is old school and it simply doesn't work for modern NHL player's. They already have enough money for most part, so they are playing for pride, respect and the dream of winning the CUP. If they are disrespected, especially in Public, the coach will lose the team. When Reimer was told Carlyle said he was "just ok", that maybe honest, but not helpful, James didn't SAY "F-him"....but his body language certainly did!!!!
He has lost Reimer's respect...and now they have only a life time back-up goalie for one of the best Defensive teams in the NHL-the Kings, Being the #1 is entirely different, especially for the Leaf's. Long term, I doubt he will do any better. I think they also messed up another talented young goalie, Gustavsson sp? who the Red Wings were happy to sign.

is a great coach with a not so great team. I don't think any goalie would do well with this team in front of them, facing 40+ shots every night. I agree with most of Carlyle's post game comments.
Reimer sucks this year, don't get me wrong, I like Reimer and was hoping for the best for him, but too many soft goals this year, i truly believe his lost the starting job a long time ago. He needs to go, even just for his own sanity(i don't think Bernier is the long term solution either). I really wished they had moved Reimer at the trade deadline and got a defensive minded player. Noonis really needs to make some changes and stop using excuses, whether it is firing Carlyle, actually making a trade or 2 that helps the team or stop signing players like Clarkson for stupid money. Maybe Noonis should be the one to go?

This team has to be #1 or 2 for most turnovers this years. I have a little hope for the future with Gardiner and Reilly if they can keep developing every year. I like to see Phaneuf moved to a second pairing so he doesn't have to play so many minutes, i think he would be much more effective if he wasn't the #1 defensive guy ( i use this term loosely) he tries to carry the team on his back and tries to do too much.
I really had high hopes this year but alas same old sh*t , crash and burn ...

I can't put any of the blame of the Leaf's struggles on the coach at all. This team is just bad and has no dedication to defence or effort at all if they are not in the offensive zone. There is no accountability at all either and bottom line is this team doesn't care anymore and it doesn't matter what Phaneuf has to say on the radio. As a matter of fact I think he's the only guy on the team that does care.

This is all upsetting to me but during the 7 game silde all of their weaknesses have been exposed. If the top line isn't carrying the team, they lose. If a goalie isn't standing on his head, they lose, If their powerplay isn't clicking, they lose and the beat goes on and on. No coach can make this team better so throwing Carlyle under the bus would just be wrong.

This team needs an identity change and needs more heart and soul and players with a championship pedigree that actually care. We don't need superstars, but you can count on one hand the number of players on this team that have won a cup or done anything in the playoffs. That's what we need. I don't think getting rid of Carlyle will solve anything since the problems with the team aren't with the coach but with the roster.

You can't put any of the blame on Carlyle? Really? They need to find a coach tha focuses on this teams strengths and can motivate the players to play at the best of their abilities ever game. A coaching change can make all the difference, look at the jets who have improved with Maurice, or look at Carlyles replacement on Anaheim in Boedeaeu. Tampa since replacing Boucher. A coaching change will help this team, the players have not taken to Carlyles system. He is a very demanding coach and some players can't handle it. Look at the words grabovski and MacArthur had to say about him, you think there are others that still play for him that think the same? I do. This team has skill and should be a playoff team, not a team that's on the verge of giving up the most shots in league history. A system /coach change couldn't hurt any

The teams horrendous play can mostly be attributed to their lack of effort and defensive conscious and I don't think that's Carlyle's fault. You could bring in the best coach in NHL history and I don't think he'll help this team either. When the team was successful it was b/c they were scoring and when they were scoring they cared more and thus made more of a defensive effort. Like a bunch of little kids on the playgroud really. Granted if they somehow make the playoffs I will be rooting for them, but this team needs major overhaul and needs players that care.

Guys like Kadri have regressed and that is upsetting since he took a nice step forward last year, but this year too many stupid penalties, too many nights off and his 200 foot game well. It was never really there in the first place. I can count on one hand the number of games I've seen the likes of Kadri, and 90% of the forwards actually show a decent effort from the beginning of the game until the end and that entire attitude has to change if this team is to get anywhere.

Carlyle is hopefully gone. speaking from experience (playing for a coach or) working for a boss that seems to disrespect people/players tends to get old fast and the effort isnt 100%. he reminds me alot of Wilson who the team/media/fans hated because of his attitude. not blaming Carlyle for the teams abysmal performance but he is not helping at all.
look at some of the moves Nonis made.
Bernier was the first huge mistake. you dont reward a team by dumping one of your favorite teammates (Reimer) for a career backup. look at his GAA the last 3 crucial games - over 4.00. he may not be at fault totally but he wasn't the answer.
Clarkson (10 points) over MacArthur (50 points). nobody expected Clarkson to suck so bad, but watch him play he is NEVER in a scoring position, he is CONSTANTLY being knocked down by even the smallest players! he is always out of position and behind the play and when he does get the puck he dumps it in or loses it.
Bye Bye Komarov, Grabovsky. you dont replace a guy like Komarov every team NEEDS a couple like him and Grabo is a useful 2nd liner centre - Kadri seems to have no idea what to do out there some nights. is he a scorer? is he a checker? his toe drag move doesnt work at the elite level.
what happened to Fraser? top D-man last year, this year gone. and dont get me started on Phaneuf. the guy cant keep the puck in the o-zone during power plays makes garbage passes and never hits the net! and those are his good points.
Leafs lost their heart and soul, and that i can blame on Carlyle.

The big problem with this team, they really only one line, the Yankee Line, 44 and 51 should learn to play defense before they spend a lot of there time in the offensive zone, Carlye should be fired and so should the General Manager, what did he bring to the table this year, nothing at the trade deadline.
Clarkson is no more than a 15 goal scorer, the other guy from the Hawks doesn't fit into the team
structure at all, the Hawks were made for him, with the Leafs he's just another nomad skating around the ice, Leaf Fan's just think you have 7 more years in Dina Phaneuf's new contract, God Bless You All, waste of space, Bernier UFA, he'll want 7M at least, as for Reimer I really feel for the guy, Carlye hates him and everyone can see it, hope he gets traded to a new team and helps put the Leafs out of the playoff's next year, there out for this year, Kadri should be gone, most night's just out for a skate, still not sold on Lupul, too many injuries, Kulemin, bye bye, but he has more goals this year than last year, Colton Orr what waste of money and space on the team for one those good players in the AHL, he play's maybe 1 minute and 30 seconds a game, in the Leafs has a younger team, with the Ducks he had a good veteran team, with some great player's, well Randy all can say to you is, So Long It's Been Nice To Know You.
