National Treasures Rookies /99 discussion...
Hi SCF members!
I am a CUP rookie collector myself & was looking at this new national treasures stuff. The rookies /99 look nice but it still has that Panini effect on it. Of course The Cup will always be the highest/best set to collect for years to come for rookies and in my opinion will stay like that! I just can't be bothered to put down $$$ on this product. Panini will never hold there value in my opinion...
Lmk your thoughts, I would like to hear what everyone has to say... I'm sure I'm not the only one that is hesitant on this Panini product...
Cheers
Josh

Like you, I am hesitant .... though I have bought 2 already for my PC guy.
I think the majority of Panini products will drop .... like 90% of it will turn into Pacific rookies. I do think though, some will hold ....
- Rookie Silhouettes /99 ( from the 1st two releases )
- Dominion RC Au Patch /99 ( from the 1st release )
- National Treasures RC Au Patch /99
No, Panini will never have resale value close to The Cup ..... but those sets will be able to take a run at the lower, high end stuff UD puts out. They will fit nicely with in between The Cup, and the next biggest true UD rookies ( Ice /99 or Ultimate /99 )

The majority of players will sell better in National Treasures than The Cup because they will be far more limited. There's no way I'll be paying more for my PC guy /249 in The Cup than his RC /99 in National Treasures.

It depends if the player has Cup RC /99. If his card is /249 in The Cup, I would go with Dominion RC /99 or NT RC /99.

The cards look awesome and if somebody wants to spend more on a Cup RC just because it says The Cup on it, that's entirely their prerogative.
I love the acetate finish on the NT RC's. Probably still won't be able to afford a Gallagher RC regardless of "the Panini effect" (whatever that means) on the perceived value of the cards.
The beauty of the hobby right now--and sadly it is soon to change--is that there are two companies busting their tails to bring us the best products that they feel capable of doing. Everybody should be able to find something that floats their boat.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Obviously everyone here knows that The Cup will out sell anything anybody else puts put whether it be Panini or UD. We all know The Cup will hold the best compared to anything else.
I think the National Treasure Rookies will hold in value. Its a product that's one of a kind something that really hasn't really ever surfaced in the Hockey Market. There was a ton of hype on this product. The boxes/cases I have seen have been pretty solid for the most part.
The NT Rookies have a huge patch window. The cards look awesome especially with the acetate on them. Best of all they are all /99. I think this will be one of the rookie cards that people will look back on and say wow I want one of those. I think in 5+ years these cards will still going pretty strong. If I had to choose one I for my guys (Beau Bennett and Olli Maatta) I would take the NT Rookie Auto Patch over the Cups. That's me though.Flickr: Hidden Content

It's not only b/c it has "the cup" on the product, UD cup has better quality overall on there product as well. Looks like everyone on the Panini product is /99... Seems boring don't you think... I personally will stay away but keep the replies coming!

I think comments about quality are very subjective and don't really hold much substance when talking about stuff in comparisons. The quality of one thing may appear completely different to two different people. I've always been under the impression that Panini's graphic design team is leaps and bounds ahead of UD when it comes to creating a quality card. National Treasure does a great job of creating nice white (and acetate) backgrounds to their cards with little spots of color throughout. They've also create amazing quality in their Prime Product as well. As far as quality in UD products I feel like SPx and SP Game Used quality has lacked the past couple years, but SP Authentic and UD Ultimate has always been a great looking product. I know there are a ton of people who would disagree with me about SPx and SP Game Used, but I'm sure there are also a ton of people who would agree with me that many of Panini's higher end products are anything but lacking in design quality. The whole /99 for every RPA thing is interesting.. it makes every player just as accessible as the next. I know if I ever can I'll be buying both NT and The Cup RPA's of my PC players.

Only /99 cup rookies sell well, everything else is mostly cheap 99% of the time.
How many /249 rookies have sold $500+ the last few years?
How many $200+?
Doubt if many, not even 1%.
UD has their lemmings and "investors" so they bring up the price up a bit but there's nothing special about the cards now.
Pacific went bankrupt, panini might buy UD in a few years.
Big difference.
There are already higher/equal selling rookies in titanium/spgu/dominion than some cup ones.
Maatta /3 in spgu could outsell /249 cup with bad patch easily.
Anything hard signed with a nice patch will sell...
But all these rookies people think are good now won't be in 5 years...

No it boring short printing rookies that UD thinks will be great when 50% of the time they bust.
Gives everyone equal chance to hit a card.
/249 these days is like /1999 used to be
